Subject: The FunTrivia Sprint - Synopsis
Date: Apr 15 12

This page contains the resulting quizzes written for the first-ever FunTrivia Sprint. Thirty-six authors contributed in twenty-four different tasks, twelve options written by WesleyCrusher and twelve options written by Kyleisalive. Some authors had the choice to write one or the other; some did not.

Regardless, enjoy the offerings written on the Sprint! :)

The old reply to thread function was removed because it got to the point where people weren't even reading the announcements and assuming, by default, that they were somehow being wronged or forgotten or insulted or abused or cheated out of something in some manner.

TASK A-11

To find out, go into your profile, section “Expertise” and then write a quiz in the Expert subcategory in which you beat the MOST players! (If that category can't be written for, just take the next one in line and if there's a tie, you choose.) If you've never won an Expert game, you have the free category choice, but your title must begin with "The Dilettante's Guide to...". In either case, all questions must be in multiple choice format.

For this topic, your quiz may be written up in one of the subordinate categories of the chosen one. For example, if your category were “Our Solar System”, you could either be in that category itself or in any of the eight planet-specific categories below it.

In addition to the above, just to put this at a suitable round 11 difficulty, you must choose and adhere to ONE of the following complications (doing more than one is allowed, but you won’t get any bonus for it):
- Your title must be an author challenge issued by someone who is not Kyle, OR
- Each of your answers (correct AND wrong) must be a single word, OR
- You must write a 15 question quiz.

TASK B-11

The Crystal Ball can be considered a difficult game to get a handle on. For this task you won’t need to play it-- instead, you’ll need to use a word provided by it in the title of your quiz. You may use any word chosen by the Crystal Ball provided it appeared after you received the clue.

Please note the word in this thread when you decide upon one; you may switch it at any time if you find a better word...of course that’ll eat into your time.

TASK A-12

For this final task, you may write any quiz you want in any category you (personally) have not yet used in this race. There is one restriction which however makes this quite difficult: All questions must have the same four answer possibilities and each of those possibilities must be correct at least twice. In addition, the following patterns may NOT be used:

- Numeric answers
- Proper names as answers (that means persons, cities, countries, and so on. If it's capitalized as a single word for being a name, you can't use it. You CAN however use titles, thus for example a literature quiz about "Which of Tolkien's books did this happen in" would work.)
- An answer set of the "only A", "only B", "both A and B" and "neither A nor B" type.

And here's one final bonus opportunity for those of you who consider this still too easy: Should you manage to make all four answer options EXACTLY 12 letters long and the same number of words without violating any other rule, I'll knock a full hour off your finishing time.

Have fun!

TASK B-12

For your final task, a real doozy. Some of the authors of this Sprint aren’t yet as prolific as others. For this final trial, you’ll need to fill in a final blank.

If you are a single sprinter (not in a pair), you will need to complete a quiz in one category (of the twenty) that you’ve never written in before.

If you’re in a pair, combine your collective lists of quizzes. Are there any missing categories between you? If so, one of you must write a quiz in that category. If, combined, you have all twenty categories, one of you must follow the task for the single sprinter, writing in a category you don’t have.

If you’ve conquered all twenty, you’re in for a treat. Many consider the Whodunnit to be one of the most difficult quizzes to write. You must write a Whodunnit in any category you have not attempted for the Sprint. You may take any approach you choose, but remember: it will be a difficult task! Play through the submissions currently online to ensure you have the style down.

Some examples of Whodunnits can be found at http://www.funtrivia.com/ql.cfm?cat=15933

Good luck!

P.S. - If you write a quiz that coincides with any challenge listed here in the Quiz Author's Lounge (and counts!) you'll receive a sixty minute time credit.
