First of all, what's up with the phrase "rules are rules"? It's either said by those who are too strict with their "enforcement of said "rules," or they're too lax.

Second I'd like to thank everyone reading this--and assure you, yet again, that my previous blogs having been deleted are completely and categorically my fault. **You did nothing *wrong.

Which brings me to another rant: why is it some people (nobody on here, I'm sure) can't accept responsibility for*anything. "If blame is to be going around... just don't look at me."

The old reply to thread function was removed because it got to the point where people weren't even reading the announcements and assuming, by default, that they were somehow being wronged or forgotten or insulted or abused or cheated out of something in some manner.

Afterward, I was to learn that the blade used to slay Ontario and his brother had been stolen from one of the prisoners by the Dark for this very purpose, for They knew it was one of the only ways to kill the twins.
I still feel sick to my stomach when I relive the scene, not that I want to but it seems forever imprinted on my eyelids. Several demons rushed the prisoners, who hadn’t moved, and grabbed them roughly by the throat. There must have been about six or seven Dark Ones for those two young men. At first I thought They were going to kill the twins simultaneously, and then the leader spoke up from behind the group. “Subdue the one named Orseviyto,” he commanded, “and let him see—“ The rest of the sentence was drowned out, as the two prisoners were now fighting against their captors for all they were worth. I saw one of the demons punch one of the young men in the gut, and heard a strangled cry as his body went limp. Protector no, I cried out in horror, but there was nothing to be done.

I THINK I'LL KEEP PART OF THE BEGINNING
======
By this time, the fight had gone out of the other boy, and I could hear his frightened breathing as he lay there in the demon’s arms, gazing into eyes as cold as the darkest wintery night. I don’t know how I knew, but I somehow recognized that it was Orehlio’s breaths I was hearing, and that his brother had blacked out.
The leader was livid. “I told you to subdue him,” he shrieked, “not to cause him to pass out! Now we have to wait till he comes to!”

THIS IS HORRIBLE, AND IF I CAN FIND A WAY TO INCORPORATE IT IN A FUTURE DRAFT, I WILL
======
One of the Dark Hunters said something I couldn’t quite hear, and I saw the leader nod grudgingly. “I’ll allow you to redeem yourself,” he muttered.
The demon holding the inert boy loosened his grip briefly in order to accept something from one of his associates. I pushed forward, straining my eyes to see through the mass of limbs, and the breath caught in my throat. There was that monster, twisting the cap from a vial I knew contained what is known as a “Temporary Rejuvenating Agent.” Most places in the Universe have outlawed such substances due to the unpredictability of their effects.

My gut twisted as I watched the boy as his head was tilted, his jaws forced open, and a bit of “medicine” poured in. Immediately, his eyelids fluttered and he gazed uncomprehendingly around him. The leader congratulated his underling for a job well done, and the wicked blade was touched to Orehlio’s throat. The 9-year-old began to tremble violently, his breaths coming in short, panting gasps. His hands reached up in a futile effort to remove the weapon, and the monster holding it leaned in with its entire weight. The young man’s eyes flooded with tears as a jet of blood arched out from the puncture wound. In a move that was so fast I almost missed it, the demon removed the dagger from the boy’s throat, narrowed his eyes to slits to better see what he was doing, found where he supposed the prisoner’s heart was, and plunged the blade through the tender flesh.

My knees went weak as the young man’s blood flowed out of him in a torrent. It was like watching the heavens open to release a sea of red.
Out of the corner of my eye I saw a glint of metal, and realized the dagger had changed hands, and now it was hovering steadily over Orseviyto’s chest.

I watched, horrified, as his blue eyes widened with fear and he attempted once again to struggle out of the monster’s clutches. The Dark Hunters chuckled mirthlessly, and the deadly weapon completed its rapid descent through the air.

As it embedded itself in his flesh, Orseviyto raised one hand to his head as if in prayer. He died like that, the blood spurting in all directions like a living geyser. It was something the likes of which I’d never before seen, and fervently hope I never do again.

INSPIRATION DULY NOTED, AND MODIFICATION PROCESS STARTED [renamed draft 9]
======
The two young prisoners stared straight ahead, their crystal blue eyes expressionless, as the Head Demon read the trumped-up charges against them: “We find twins Orseviyto and Orehlio Ordevahran guilty of the crime of Impersonation, for which they will be executed tomorrow at dawn.” I inhaled sharply, wondering how my own countrymen could allow this to happen. Scenoria was, after all, the kingdom of justice, wasn’t it? WELL, IF THIS BE YOUR DEFINITION OF JUSTICE, I thought, YOU CAN COUNT ME OUT! I blinked rapidly, swallowing with difficulty the lump that had lodged in my throat.

I MEANT, NEW DRAFT 10
======
I saw something then which caused me to stare: one of the two condemned had raised his head, and was gazing straight at me, his eyes seeming to plead with me. What was I supposed to do? I had no legal power to overturn a decision made by the tribunal!
All of a sudden I noticed the noise level had risen, and that several demons were on Their feet, shouting. Calmly, the leader waved for silence. “One at a time, please,” he growled.

An angelic-looking she-devil stood up and faced the leader. “Who has made this decision,” she demanded in a loud voice, “without consulting us?” A number of angry voices muttered agreement.

DRAFT NINETEEN
======
Alonso’s shoulders slumped as he heard the verdict read out in a clear, frigid voice. I CAN’T TAKE THIS, he thought sadly. True, he’d been expecting the bogus charges from the moment he and his twin were summoned here, but he’d hoped—
“Cheer up,” Ontario hissed in his left ear. “ At least we’re not bound like we were in the beginning.”
“Only because they know we’re not going anywhere,” Alonso retorted bitterly, slapping his twin’s hand away from his shoulder. “Now the penalty phase of that mockery of a trial is here, there’s no need to restrain us!”

Justice, I thought dryly, isn’t what it used to be. I gazed around at the mostly hostile faces around me, searching for a glimpse of the condemned. Spotting them, I carefully made my way towards the two, no more than boys, the hand of the one resting comfortingly on the arm of the other. I couldn’t hear their conversation, but gathered from their postures that it was heated indeed. I didn’t want to stumble into the middle of an argument.

I was about to turn away when I noticed the demons closest to me were paying close attention to one or both of the prisoners. Without thinking, I inserted myself between the Dark and Their quarry.
“Hey,” the one snarled, “you’re in my way!” I glanced around, thinking how ugly the monster in front of me was.
“I didn’t see you trying to move,” I replied as lightly as I could. WHAT NONSENSE, a voice at the back of my mind commented. THEY’RE GUARDS FROM THE PRISON, SENT TO ENSURE THE BOYS HAVE NO CONTACT WITH EACH OTHER. Which meant what? That They’d been sleeping on Their post?

AND NOW, THE LAST DRAFT OF "THE TRIBUNAL" TO DATE
======
Tears sprang to the child’s eyes as another blow connected with his skull. “Qevreyta,” he gasped, trying to move out of the way of the furious tide that had claimed him.
Abruptly, he awoke to find his identical twin shaking him gently. “It’s OK,” Qodiehnto Voliyno murmured reassuringly. Qori nodded, but he knew it wasn’t ‘all right. Nothing would be ‘all right’ ever again.

RENAME, PUT IN FOLDER, SEE WHAT I CAN DO WITH IT IN A YEAR OR SO

Ontario sat up reluctantly. “Time for another day,” he muttered. His room felt empty this morning, after his terrifying dream. “I won’t let them hurt you,” he whispered. Hurriedly, the nine-year-old got dressed and let himself out into the hallway. “Would Alonso still be in his room, or has he already begun the trek to breakfast,” he wondered. A third possibility occurred to him, and the boy shivered.

======
He was often astounded by the fact that two individuals who were supposedly identical to each other were anything but. At nine years old, Ontario was about a foot larger than Alonso. Only their crystal blue eyes, seeming to pierce whatever they happened to look at, appeared the least the same. Alonso’s straight brown hair hung down around his shoulders, straight as could be, while his sibling’s had turned crimson with the firepower he had recently learned to master. Alonso couldn’t help feeling envious; HE couldn’t use magic of any kind yet. Everyone told him to be patient, that his Powers would activate soon, but he often wondered how long he’d have to wait in order for that to happen.

The nine-year-old glowered at the wall. His twin was even experiencing his first go at romance. “Good for him,” he muttered darkly. Alonso was truly happy for Ontario, or at least part of him was, but it seemed like everything was coming together for his brother. “Meanwhile, I sit here like the forgotten third wheel.”

The two boys let themselves outside, neither one speaking until they were safely out the door. “Can’t have anyone overhearing our private conversation,” the older one commented, pausing to look over at his brother before continuing. “I caught one of the Godunov women skulking around, trying to eavesdrop.”
“Perhaps we should do something about her next,” the other boy remarked dryly.
“I know you’d rather not hurt anyone,” the older boy said soothingly, “but sometimes it is necessary in order to get what you want.”
“It’s just,” the other replied, “oh, I don’t know—“
“Just spit it out Fergus.”
“Well, I almost feel sorry for the target. I mean, his friends all seem to be doing better in their subjects than he is.”

The older boy turned thoughtful. “Think of it this way: by removing him we’re doing the kid a favor. Nobody needs him anymore; if we don’t help things along, they’re only bound to get worse.”
Fergus grinned. “I always did like the way your mind worked, Lachlainn.”
“Tonight, then?”
“Sounds good to me.”

JUST WROTE NOTES, AND A DRAFT, FOR "THE SURGEON'S ASSISTANT"
======
The child lay on the operating table, his breaths coming in frightened gasps. TRY NOT TO THINK, he commanded himself, full aware how ridiculous the notion was. Were the situation not quite so scary, he’d have smiled. As it was, he was strapped down to this hard, metal surface, waiting for the demon known as Surgeon, or his assistant, to enter the room and make his suffering complete.
