First of all, what's up with the phrase "rules are rules"? It's either said by those who are too strict with their "enforcement of said "rules," or they're too lax.

Second I'd like to thank everyone reading this--and assure you, yet again, that my previous blogs having been deleted are completely and categorically my fault. **You did nothing *wrong.

Which brings me to another rant: why is it some people (nobody on here, I'm sure) can't accept responsibility for*anything. "If blame is to be going around... just don't look at me."

The old reply to thread function was removed because it got to the point where people weren't even reading the announcements and assuming, by default, that they were somehow being wronged or forgotten or insulted or abused or cheated out of something in some manner.

Corissa, Robbie's wife, went into labor yesterday, and a few minutes ago gave birth to a 7-pound baby named Aubrey Ann. I think Grandma said she's eleven inches long. When he gets off work, Rob's going to visit the hospital so that he can meet his granddaughter.

lesley153 Congratulations!

Not sure about the eleven inches but seven pounds is a nice classic weight.

I hope they're both well and happy. :)

Just wrote another draft (I'm just experimenting with these scenarios or inspirations as they come):
======
The boy strained his lungs and prayed that, if the Protector was listening, his ordeal would be over soon. STEADY, a voice ordered, and the nine-year-old’s breathing slowed from the frantic gasps of a moment ago. DON’T THINK ABOUT YOUR WOUNDS. JUST FOCUS ON EACH INDIVIDUAL BREATH. His eyes scrunched tight, Alonso Gonzales did as he was told. Warm blood still oozed sluggishly from his injuries, but they no longer bothered him. All that matteredwas finding some way to survive. After all, if anything were to happen to him, the same was true of his identical twin. For Ontario, he’d gladly endure anything.

Kora Ferguson fought down a twinge of guilt as she straddled the inert figure of her nephew. So scared, a small voice at the back of her mind commented, and it was all she could do not to shout at it. LEAVE ME BE! How else was she going to get pregnant again if not this way? THE DARK WON’T LET YOU GIVE BIRTH, the same voice pointed out maddeningly. OR, IF THEY DO, THEY’LL TAKE THE BABY AS SOON AS IT’S BORN AND RAISE IT AS THEIR OWN. “Quit it,” she hissed under her breath. “Quit it, quit it, quit it.” The body beneath her gave a strangled gasp, then went limp, and Kora realized she’d been too rough on him. “Forgive me,” she murmured, patting her nephew’s shoulder. No response.

Her gaze flew to his crystalline blue eyes, and she felt her heart stop at the shock of seeing his face, drained of all color, all signs of life having fled his young body moments before. “No,” she cried.
A cold chuckle to her left caused her to raise her head. The Fairy Empress stood with her head tilted back, laughing maniacly. “Too bad,” she remarked in that voice that seemed to freeze everything around her. “At least you’ll get a son or daughter out of it.” She turned, then, and Kora was very glad, as that meant Silvia couldn’t see her hot tears of shame and remorse.

“I can’t concentrate,” Ontario Gonzales exclaimed, throwing down his pen so hard it bounced off the table. Absently, the nine-year-old snapped his fingers, and the writing implement flew from where it was lying on the floor into his hand.
“Nice one,” Anastasia Godunov commented dryly, earning her puzzled looks from both him and her twin sister, Anja. “What,” she snapped irritably.
“He didn’t try that,” Anja hissed.
“Oh,” Anastasia said, feeling slightly guilty.
“It was nothing,” he told her, reaching across to pat her hand.
“I shouldn’t have been so—“ she began, but he waved her words away with a smile.
“Happens to the best of us,” he muttered, scanning the room worriedly.

“When’s the last time you saw Alonso,” she asked him.
“History,” he replied without hesitation.
“But that’s,” she began, struggling to remember their schedule, “uh…”
“First class after lunch,” he supplied helpfully.
“I don’t understand why we were assigned different lessons,” she burst out suddenly. “Maybe, if something happened, and we were still in the same group, we’d know by now—or have been able to prevent—“
“I thought you were in the same lesson group,” Anja spoke up.
“Supposed to be,” he snapped, “but I wound up with extra training practice!” He took a deep breath, fought for composure. “I apologize for taking my frustrations out on you.”
“Don’t worry about it,” she said, reaching out to pat his arm. “We are only human, after all, no matter what our Power Level might suggest.”

THREE IN ONE DAY?

Surprising, given the slow start I got

Draft three of "AbductionII"

The blow sent the boy flying backward until his head smacked against the wall. He slid to the floor, stunned, stars dancing in front of his vision. “Time,” Cheveyo Ramirez called out, rushing to kneel beside him. “I won’t ask if you’re all right,” he murmured just loud enough for the boy to hear, although no one else was within the vicinity, “because it’s apparent you aren’t. Instead, I’ll ask you what’s wrong? I’ve never seen you this distracted.”

The nine-year-old groaned as if to himself, then lifted one hand to the back of his scalp. “Interesting,” he muttered.
“Didn’t expect it to be so thick,” the older man asked with a smile.
The trainee winced. “No laughing matter,” he mumbled, averting his gaze from that of his mentor.
Cheveyo sighed. “I wasn’t poking fun at you, Ontario.”
“I know,” the 9-year-old whispered, still gazing anywhere but at the man at his side.
“Look here,” the 19-year-old said firmly, reaching out to grasp the trainee’s shoulder.Ontario stiffened, and he withdrew his hand. “Just tell me,” he suggested.

Anastasia stared longingly out the window. She’d rather be doing anything else right about now. They’ve put me in the most boring class in the entire school, she thought, her mind wandering to later that evening. She and Alonso had made plans to take a walk in the gardens, and maybe eat outside. I’d like to know him better, she thought, and I get the sense he feels the same way about me.

Fergus pressed down firmly on the kid’s back. “Don’t make this harder for yourself than it already is,” he hissed, and was rewarded by the body beneath him tensing. “Right now, it’s just me, but my brother’s on his way—“ His sentence was interrupted by a powerful blast to his shields. The 11-year-old staggered, wondering vaguely where the boy had learned to do that. It wasn’t as if he were incredibly Gifted.

EXPERIMENTAL STUFF, ALL OF IT

I just came across where “Village Streets” was born.

About two and a half years ago, I read the first book in the Caretaker Trilogy for the first time. Now I’m rereading it, and either writing down notes or exact quotes then, later, I intend to write something like a book report (though different at the same time).

I just finished the part with the motorcycle gang, and the leader is this big guy with a lot of intelligence and hawklike features. “Bizanti was born here,” I said to myself (about 2-1/2 = about three summers ago [probably springtime, since the summer was when I was in hospital])

Also read “The Cleaner” around the same time, which gave me the scenes which involved screwdrivers.

Interesting.

The other day, "What Makes You Beautiful" passed the test of stress, calming me enough to exercise. Today, it motivated me when I had no energy to exercise and enabled me to do my stretches. Complete reversal! Don't think I've ever encountered a song like that before! (Was hopeful it would do that. Glad it did.)

Just wrote a fragment of "Village Streets:"

The King of Scenoria lurched to his feet and felt blindly for the knob. In the back of his mind, he knew he was acting contrary to everything he’d been taught. MUST… FIND… CHILDREN… his mind gasped as, ignoring the pain, he wrenched the knob open. Most stupid move in his life, but he was beyond thinking. Oblivious to the roaring flames, Sevahriano Voliyno staggered out into the hallway. Impossible to see. Smoke too thick. He began to cough violently, dropping to his knees in the entry. Lie flat, a voice at the back of his mind ordered, and he obeyed instinctively. Miraculously, there was a small pocket of air down here.
After a moment his mind cleared somewhat, and he began edging cautiously toward the other side of the palace. Flames higher here. Keep your wits. Bits and pieces of his dream flooded his senses, nearly taking his renewed self-preservation away again.

OK… I CAN UNDERSTAND GOING BY A SCHEDULE, OR AT LEAST TO SOME EXTENT, BUT… (One would think family would precede anything else at times.)

Of course, I’m not too bright, so what do I know (hell, but if that doesn’t sound like the beginning of a tragic story [shame it’s a real one])

Sometime back, Janice decided that since they weren’t coming for more than a few hours Memorial Day (driving three hours for a round trip just to spend three hours with the family) that they’d come down with the camper when Bill went for his picnic. Apparently, Grandma winding up in hospital changed all that, so they brought the car again.

Janice and Grandma did go out to klunch for what she likes to call “Sister’s Day.” Nice meal at Heidelberg. Grandma called Mom when they got back to house, and she and I went down. Visited with both women for a bit when we got there, then he came back early from picnic and they quick left (I was half tempted to protest, we just got here! But, I didn’t as I know how they [or, at least, how she] is.

Mom helped Grandma print some business cards, then we took our leave as well. (I found myself uncertain as to what to say to Grandma. Not like visits in past. [I know she’s the same person, but I’m not sure anymore what all she comprehends, and find myself waiting for her to start/continue the conversation. Responses as awkward as some I give to Georgette. Feel somewhat guilty for being so inadequate—animated when speaking to Janice and Bill, even Mom, and had to make an excuse to explain silence to Grandma. Technically, not even a lie: she asked if I was tired and I said a little, though in my mind I was thinking how it was so much more, combination of heat/humidity and cigarette smoke/allergies])

Mom’s AC in her car works for the first time in years. Surprised when I got in car. Forgot she had AC, since it didn’t work (for air flow, she used a combination of windows and sun roof). Seems mechanic fixed AC when car was inspected.

Noticed vast differentce between temperature in hallway/first floor/in car with AC and inside apartment. Bad sign when it’s cooler to ride in the car then it is in apartment (I remember noticing before how much cooler it is in hallway – the good news is Mom has a fan in the basement which, if I remind her, she’ll bring over the next time we see each other.

Michael’s leaving for Michigan on Wednesday, and Mom for the beach Saturday. Seems Grandma wasn’t aware of either plan.

Back on Memorial Day, Mom noticed my sunglasses were bent, and she said she might have an extra pair I could have. I finally remembered today, and was able to remind her to get them to me.)

Mom was roused this morning by work, letting her know there was a fire. Everything’s OK, just malfunctioning refrigerator or something in one of the apartments. So long as nobody’s hurt, that’s good.

Mom’s planning to take a nap. “Hopefully, nothing happens to disturb [it],” I told her.

Wrote up a rough draft of"Ice Sculpture" (I'm now combining "Qamornyx Thread," "The Ice Sculpture," and "The Velahquesahni" [or whatever it is I called them].
=======
I blink at my younger cousin, my brain unwilling to focus properly. How did I get here? Can’t seem to think. Qydra smiles. Yanks my arms out in front of me. Snaps his fingers. Immobolization Spell combined with something else. Tiny needles prick skin. “Qamornyx thread,” he explains conversationally. My heart stops beating for a moment. Mind seems to have unfrozen now that it’s too late. The stuff he’s bound me with will suck every drop of magic from my veins. Powerless to prevent it. Knees give way. Cry out in pain as flesh bursts open. Feel each drop of blood as it falls to ground, taking a bit of me with it. Vision blurs. Sense evil cousin’s grin spreading across his face like a poisonous vine. Hear him breathing, somewhere behind me. Vaguely wonder what he has planned for me. Own breaths shaky indeed.

Cold hand on arm. Want to shrug off, but can’t. Even my voice seems to have died. I kneel there, silent tears coursing down my cheeks, breaths rattling in my lungs, as the fingers dig into my shoulder. “Mahquevahra,” he whispers, and I feel colder than I ever have in my life. Numbness spreads from one part of me to another. I slump on stomach, hear a sickening crunch. What? Don’t care. Organ systems sluggish. Shutting down. Past caring.

The Fairy Lord bent gracefully, his cruel hands going around his cousin’s torso. With barely an effort, Qydra straightened, and Qodi’s ice-encased figure slid easily from the ground. “I’ve been waiting years for this moment,” the seven-year-old whispered, one hand stroking lovingly at the hardening icicles that were his older cousin. He began to walk, slowly at first, then with increasing speed. Purposeful strides. All the while, he kept murmuring to himself: “It’s nearly finished.”
