Here's the deal: If the boilers are on, then the people who want AC "can still get it," but the air won't be as cool
Just called down to Sue, who explained that this time of year is always the toughest
"If we turrn off the boilers, then the people who are cold can't get heat. If we don't, then the air doesn't cool enough."
Currently, I'm using Sue's box fan. Temporarily, I switched the bread box around on the counter so that the fan can be placed at an angle so that the air reaches me both at the kitchen table and at the desk. I have it on medium now; I remember, when I was between units, I had the fan then, and when I had it on high the air would reach into the bedroom (the difference then was, it was the **hottest *day*)
I still have the bedroom window open, but I closed the living room (as I explained to Sue, I wouldn't open windows this time of year because of my allergies had it not been for how hot it gets otherwise because (a) it can rain at any time, and (b) the polln and other allegens aggravate my asthma).

This time of year is a pain with the daytime temps high enough for AC, and at night it gets as low as the 30's.
I have central air and heat, but I hate to go back and forth! I'm not sure what a 'boiler' is...:)

VM, from what I understand it's part of the furnace (or perhapsit *is the furnace; I know Mom has one)

I got a call earlier from Grandma, asking me if I like rice krispies and frosted shredded wheat.
Yeah, why?
Turns out, she already has plenty of cereal (both she and my uncle rarely eat any, and if they do there's more than enough), and The Old Man (my grandfather [long story]), who's diabetic, got a box of each in the stuff he got from the food bank. "He can't be eating all that cereal because it messes around with his sugar." So I told Grandma I'd be happy to take it.

Much as I don't care to open the windows on a day like today, I have because Mom assured me it won't rain in "unless it rains very, very hard," and plus she thinks I'm spoiled by using the fan in the first place (**hello--Sue offered; I'd never have asked for *it!*)

Interesting link on Boilers, Jaymee. My Aunt and Uncle had 'hot water heat' but I don't remember how it worked...
"Exploding Boilers" Yikes!

Conversation after Mom “lectured” or “scolded me”:
Mom: Are you mad at me?
Me: No
Q: “Don't you just hate it when your mother's right?”
A: Slightly less so than admitting it **to *her. Admitting it to myself: less painful.
Proof that one needs to be ultra-careful? Still scary. Yikes, indeed!

I have one of those voice command features on my cell phone (on another day, I’ll get into the differences between “voice command” and “voice activated,” in my estimation at least). I wanted to call Mom, and so here’s the conversation my phone and I had:
Cell: Please say a command.
Me: Call Mom.
Cell: Calling, Mummy… home.
Me: *What? (Hang up quickly)
That is *not one of the names on my contact list, so I don’t know exactly what my phone was saying.

Re: “Voice activated” vs “voice command”
Two years ago, I had a cell phone that, when someone called, the phone would tell me who the caller was (either by identifying the number or, if the contact information was in contacts, , the person’s name). It was a really nice feature, and that I consider to be a “voice command” phone.
This “please say a command” thing I have on my cell now… that’s just “voice activation.” Half the time, it can’t understand what I want—or *I can’t understand it (see above where I mention this subject [post 32]).
I would have preferred the “voice command” phone, but when I asked if they had something like that, they just gave me that “voice activated” one. (actually, if I remember right it was Mom who asked)
Of course, I don’t *need a talking caller ID—but I do miss it. It would come in handy, especially those times when Georgette calls me at an inconvenient time (I always pick up because I think it may be urgent, no matter what I’m doing).
Q. If sighted people can have caller ID, then why isn’t there a feature on all phones for those of us who can’t see the numbers? **That would make sense, wouldn't *it? Let's say it together now: it all boilsdown to money.

So far, there's a nice breeze coming in the window :)
On the flip side, I heard a lawn mower earlier (and I'm allergic to freshly-cut grass)

Ate one of my favorite meals: fried chidken and mac n' cheese (I normally get two of these "chicken dinners" from Zweier's. Each can be either a chicken breast or chicken leg, a roll, and either mac n' cheese or [I suppose because they were out of the mac n' cheese, or perhaps had leftovers to dispose of], some sort of potatoes)
And I remembered to buy fresh muffins this week (the one time I got banana nut muffins, and another time they were the blueberry. These are the big muffins :))

I’m reading a book now that combines science fiction with fantasy. It’s called “Lamentation” and is a book one in a trilogy or series. Like a lot of what I read, there appear to be parallels with my own thinking and my own stories.
