Grandma and I were talking about how people rush everywhere, and use shortcuts to do everything.
“There was a story in the [Reading] paper about a sixteen-year-old girl who was texting while driving.” As a result of her “lapse in judgment,” someone is dead. “Tthey decided to try her as an adult.”
Last week Grandma read about a man who was READING THE NEWSPAPER while driving! “He had it open over the steering wheel, and got into an accident. There were no serious injuries… but that’s not the point.”
She also brought up how “women put on makeup while driving.” That was when I said people should slow down so they wouldn’t be tempted to do some of this sh*t.

Men shave and read maps as they drive, and both sexes eat and drink, anything from soft drinks to scalding coffee.
Shame you can't legislate about naked stupidity.

It is, Lesley.
Reminds me of the time my penn pal told me his wife “wrecked the car over a cup of coffee.” I called him on it at the time, for it sounded rather like abuse: I suggested he be more careful what he said, as the way it came across, it sounded almost as if he was heaping blame on her (ALMOST AS IF NOTHING); and I added that, if anything happened to her he’d be devastated. He wrote back, confirming my impression.
Last August, the co uple was returning home when she lost control of the car. “I want you to know that it was NOT Helen’s fault,” he told me more than once when he related what happened. Aside from totaling the vehicle, Charlie had to spend hours in the hospital and weeks in pain due to a fractured back. I didn’t even consider it might be her fault; it was rainy that night, so I blamed the accident on the weather. (Even the most careful drivers can be caught by THAT culprit!)

It may be an urban myth, but I have heard that lorry drivers read maps as they drive, and I believe it.
One thing we know they will never do is ask directions. We went to see my husband's sister in Norwich, for lunch. It's easy, she said. It's a turning off the ring road.
We found the ring road, and drove round looking for the turning. For an hour. The following conversation was repeated at five-minute intervals:
Me: Let's stop and ask someone.
Husband: No. I'll find it.
Eventually he stopped the car, and Jonathan and I scrambled out and rang her from a phone box. (It would be a few more years before we got mobile phones.)
"Which ring road are you on?" SIL asked. Norwich has two ring roads, and it didn't occur to her to tell us until we'd spent an hour driving round the wrong one.

Wow - shame on her!
She couldn't possibly have expected you to know that on your own, could she?
Reminds me of one of the roads around here. I moved onto an address on Cornwall Road not knowing that, a few blocks over,the same road twists around so that it ends up on the *other* side of route 72!
I forget how I found out - I think it might have been during a mobility lesson.
I remember wondering how many people in the area knew it did that.
That's only *one* of the confusing things about my city. Two more are:
- Half of the streets are one way going one direction, an the other half are one way going the other. (so you can't travel the one direction--I think it's illegal or something)
- We have two zip codes (I'll never did understand the logic)
Oh, just thoght of another:
- There's "short long distance" and "long distance." The "short long distance" is covered under the "local" plan, though it still costs more; if you call "long distance," you are then instructed to put in a code.
I'm sure there are others, but I can't think of them off the top of my head.

She's very intelligent with no common sense. Oh and she doesn't drive. She knew which ring road she meant - why would she need to tell him? He could have looked at a map for himself, but he gave her credit for knowing where she lived.
Later, we got more instructions from her husband, who said to drive through a narrow space under a bridge. OK for their car, which could fit in the space, but not for ours, which was wider. Husband pointed the car at the space and put his food down. We got some really impressive scratches on the paintwork.
Who designed the town/city you live in? Someone with a very offbeat sense of humour?

“Who designed the town/city you live in? Someone with a very offbeat sense of humour?”
That’s what I’d like to know!
“intelligent with no common sense”? Pity, I think it would be so much better to have both. Then again, what one considers “common sense,” someone else considers an alien concept.
Perhaps someone should write a manual or something.

I had ice on my back while watching the show, and it still feels good (the pack's in the freezer, but my shirt's still cold in spots - or is it that my nerves absorbed the cold?
Time for bed - Zweier's delivery tomorrow
And it'll be interesting to see who goes home tomorrow on "Idol." Grandma and Janice would disagree with me, but I've never cared much for Phillip.

A story or so efore I log off:
======
I’m actually surprised I didn’t have a nightmare about it. ‘Note to self: be more careful what I read in bed.’ It’s what I get for listening to more of “The Big Necessity”. ‘”I just got a really gross idea!” In all fairness to the book, the idea was most likely already there.’
------
This is the idea that would, at one time, be incorporated into "Village Streets," then later become the basis for "Graphic Image"

Every now and then I'll have a day like the one described:

Today, as with yesterday, I feel as if I didn’t sleep. I don’t get it! I was in bed all night! |

**Very *nice:
======
Around 10:00 or so, the Zweier’s delivery guy arrived. Someone must have let himm in, as he didn’t buzz in but instead came straight up to my apartment. After asking who it was, I bade him enter as the door was open, then told him to set the groceries on the table. “Should I unload them for you?” he asked. “That way I can take the boxes with me.” I told him it was OK, and after that was done he wanted to know if he could help me put everything away. At first I said no, not wanting to hold him up. “You’re not,” he insisted. And so I put him to work. And as he was walking out the door, he said, “see you next time””.

And that was... looks like I need to order `the book again
======
There aren’t many mysteries I’d consider listening to twice, but this one’s an exception. Twists and turns, stellar plots… the only disappointment was the one narrating the story. Oh, don’t get me wrong, she’s not bad, but after listening to some digital books that are clearly done by professionals…
Even so, I’d highly recommend “Just Take My Heart” to those who enjoy legal/medical thrillers.

**I remember this *day!
======
It was one of those mornings where you just lay there, unwilling to move. Not a cloud in the sky, but… just one of those mornings when the brain is sluggish.
All of a sudden, my cell phone rang. I rolled over to answer, struggling to make my thoughts less fuzzy. “Hello?” I asked groggily. “What are you doing?” Grandma asked. “Well, currently I’m still in bed.” “Oh, well, I’m sorry, didn’t mean to wake you.” Sounds familiar, I thought, like… Tuesday. “No,, that’s OK, I wanted to be awakened.” Short silence, then: “Do you want company?” “Sure,” I exclaimed, throwing my legs over the side of the bed. “It’ll take me about five minutes before I leave, as I’m not dressed, she explained, “but I should be there no later than 11:30.”

Turns out, it was after 12 by the time she got here. Before coming up, she went to Walmart to get cat treats and baby food—Little Girl can’t eat the dry cat food on account of the damaged nerves on the left side of her neck, and her stomach’s upset, so the vet’s having Grandma feed her chicken-flavored baby formula. “I have to call him tomorrow and report on how she’s doing.”
------
Such a mess with that!

I kept this book for the longest time before sending it back, and some of the lines in my drama remind me strongly of it
======
Finished listening to "Song of the Dragon" for the second time last night, and might do a third: the narrator's spectacular, and the book itself is... outstanding!
It's one of those books that you definetly can't judge on the first few pages;
Looks like the next one's coming out next month.
Unfortunately, I'll most likely have to wait longer as I have to wait for the Library for the Blind to make it available
Book 1 was a commercial audio book with adaptations for the handicapped (special announcements from NLS [National Library Service {called a "Library of Congress Annotation"}])

Birthdays in my family are always a "quiet" affair (WELL... mostly quiet)
=====
Mom came over for a surprise birthday lunch. Grandma asked me if I could arrange for her to be there around 12:30 or so. “How about 1?” So, the plan was set in motion: I called zMom and asked if she wanted to have lunch on Sunday. “What are you cooking?” she asked. “I can’t tell you that,” I exclaimed, “It’s a surprise!”

As it happens, Mom was late leaving the house—and Uncle Michael didn’t get there until later in the day. But Grandma bought an oreo cake and bought pizza from Marco’s—sausage, Mom’s favorite.
Grandma was a little late as well, though she still got here before Mom, because I asked her to pick up a tape recorder from Radio Shack. “They said they’d hold it for me if I picked it up today.”
