First of all, what's up with the phrase "rules are rules"? It's either said by those who are too strict with their "enforcement of said "rules," or they're too lax.

Second I'd like to thank everyone reading this--and assure you, yet again, that my previous blogs having been deleted are completely and categorically my fault. **You did nothing *wrong.

Which brings me to another rant: why is it some people (nobody on here, I'm sure) can't accept responsibility for*anything. "If blame is to be going around... just don't look at me."

The old reply to thread function was removed because it got to the point where people weren't even reading the announcements and assuming, by default, that they were somehow being wronged or forgotten or insulted or abused or cheated out of something in some manner.

X Factor started tonight

'Revenge' starts Sept. 30

And I better quit playing around on the forums and go to bed before I get myself in major trouble

Mom's taking Grandma to the eye doctor, then later attending an Employee Recognition Dinner

In other news, one day last week (and ten a few days ago) I tried to pay my Cable bill online, and got an error message. Today, I went in again and, I'm not certain, but it may have let me pay: had I gotten another error I'd have called the company.

The other day, I went online to pay my Cable bill. Got in, viewed the thing, tried to pay… and was told “404 Forbidden.” Sometime later, went back in and tried again, with a similar result. Today, was presented with an option to “pay now,” and clicked that about four or five times—including twice on the phone with Comcast. Each time it came back at me with “invalid amount.” **What do you mean, ‘invalid *amount,’ I wanted to know. **I’m not trying to pay anything other than the ‘full’ *amount!
Talked to a gentleman in the online department, who was helping me with the problem. As it was giving me so much trouble, he set me up to pay over the phone via the automated system for $5.99. *Disaster, and that’s putting it mildly. First, it took me a few tries to put in my account number—and then I forgot where my information for my debit card was written. So while I was scrambling to find that, the system put me back over to a representative!
Amanda straightened the problem out, and now the bill is paid. [After paying $5.99 to do it over the phone.] Lesson? First and foremost—also most important—the first time I have a problem, call. Don’t wait in the hope it’ll resolve itself (ten to one, it won’t).

The probem could be my screenreaer, and in fact I'd be surprised if it's anything else [JAWS seems to change what it's compatible with from day to day].

The eye doctor told Grandma not to drive until he sees her again in December. Turns out, it's not just the right eye that's out of focus, but both. He told her it takes about six months for all the swelling to go down in the brain. He did tests, and found that "otherwise, my eyes are as healthy as a 28-year-old." He also told her that, compared to where she was after the stroke, she's come a long way, and will likely continue to improve.

veronikkamarrz Very good news for your G'ma! Is she OK with waiting 'til December?

She's kind of depressed aboutit, but, based on the conversation we had yesterday, she'll abide by it (though I didn't ask if she'll stop driving to the local store. I know she doesn't need to use the highway, but it's still driving, and therefore I hope she doesn't.

I did express my sympathy yesterday, as I know she had her heart set on regaining that freedom. And though she expressed frustration, she knows she can't rush the recovery process.

Today we didn't talk much as she had a headache and didn't feel too well.

Mom called this afternoon to say she was mentally drained, and was going for a bike ride with my uncle. Then, while still on the phone with me, she turned to him and asked, "where's my phone?" I was laughing so hard I almost cried.

Mom and I are both feeling a little "mean" today, and finding it hard to get motivated to do stuff. (She told me earlier that she had a headache, and later I realized that so did I).

Yesterday, I was checking my email when I accidentally clicked on one of those newsletters Bath and Body Works send me several times a week. Turns out, it wasn’t a problem, as I found the link to unsubscribe from them (I’ve always loved how they just send you stuff you don’t want), so clicked on that—and was told that any future newsletters would be automatically moved to my “junk” folder. It also asked me if I wanted all the Bath and Body stuff deleted, and I said “yes.”

Then Mom came to help with the laundry (before coming she called, and told me to gather a load of items in my laundry bag).

This time I used the bathroom before I left, and had my fanny pack on (in which I put my cell phone). The one thing I didn’t have was a wallet in which to put the quarters in.

I had to switch the washer from “gentle” to “mormal” and the dryer from “cold” to “hot.” (Why would anybody dry their clothes on “cold”?)

While the stuff was washing, Mom walked across the street for the newspaper. She was going to read the “Dear Annie” column to me, but then she got an important phone call. After that it was time to dry, and she went up to clean the apartment while it was running. When she came back down, she showed me how to clean the lint filter (before she went up, she also showed me how to know if a dryer’s out of order—on the change box on the dryer across from the washer I used, there was a piece of paper taped over where the cash goes in. There was also this wire thing sticking up).

I met my one neighbor, named Susan, who’s also blind. She’s known my name for a few years, as we’ve attended picnics together, but we’ve never been formally introduced.z (She was just getting a soda, as she’d done her wash on Saturday).

Woke up at three in the morning, then again at six, because it was hot as blazes in here. I had the AC on all night and, though I could feel there was cold air coming out, it wasn't really making a difference (it was just comingout in this thin stream an was closer to lukewarm than anything else). Went to kitchen, turned fan to high, lay back down, and after an hour or so AC was where it should be.

I've already called to report how ineffective this thing is--twice. I'm thinking that I'll have to deal with it this year, as they'll be switching the heat on in a matter of weeks (so it's likely not important or something).

I remember last year, or perhaps the year before, when it was very windy. Heat wasn't doing anything for me, so called and was told "we can't do anything for you until the wind dies down."

Might have a different spin this year to sell :-)

lesley153 Tumble-drying on cold is like hanging up to dry on a cool, windy day, on a clothesline. It's something to try if your garment is labelled do not tumble dry - you might risk keeping it moving but won't risk heating it.

Thanks for the explanation, Lesley.

I ordered Coke on sale this week, three six-pack of bottles for $10. (They also have the two eight-pack bottles for $7, but the 3/10 is a much better deal, in my opinion).

They also have twelve doughnuts for $2.99.

Last night, and this afternoon, I ordered from Marco's. Yesterday, it was chicken fingers, small fry and a Coke for 9.98; today it's a large fried chicken salad and soda or $8.88.

We didn’t do much Friday night as it was around 8:30 by the time she got here. Mom did stay and visit with us a while, and Ethan came out for a bit (Mom and Grandma were holding him, but when it came my turn he became a brat and wanted back in his cage).

Mom picked Grandma up around 2:30 on Saturday, as she had a dinner engagement later. In between, we watched some movies, talked, and ate.
