LIMA
======
Me: What’s LIMA to me?
Mom: Lebanon Internal Medicine… but you were never at LIMA.
Me: I thought so, but—

Apparently, Mom got the same letter I did; either that, or she knows people who did. It talks about a computer being destroyed after the flood. ‘When was that? September? And people are just hearing about it now?’ “But you never went to LIMA. ‘Was that ever in dispute? We’re talking about how one of those letters came addressed to me. One’s Personal Health Information doesn’t just appear out of thin air; they had to get my name and address from somewhere—that’s all I’m concerned about!’ “Unless—“ Unless one of their doctors took care of me in the hospital in July 2010. The Medical Director of the Kaplan, though not actually *my doctor, had each of my roommates as patients—and he was the head of LIMA at the time.
------
As for Mom, she works in a facility with hundreds of potential recipients of said letter.

11/16 - Mobsters
======
At 8 PM, I watched the tail end of a program about a gangster and his brother who were beaten to death by fellow gangsters. Then, at 9, I saw one giving the profiles of various mafia members. Quotes include:

Tonight’s program was about Kathleen and Michael. ‘To Caitlin, he was a “great stepfather,” but there were certain lies he told his family and others, starting with the fact that he was a “war hero.” The story goes downhill after Caitlin graduates from high school and goes to college. Turns out, Michael’s not the family man he appears to be.’

Who the Bleep Did I Marry
======
Tonight’s program begins with the line, “when it comes to love and marriage, things aren’t always as they seem.” It told the story of Joseph and Joy. ‘He was a seemingly positive role model for her children, and everything was fine until—‘ Until several “suspicious” deaths occur.

11/17 - Cold Blood
======
‘I can’t with a clear conscience say I did ten minutes.’ Not when, just before the stopwatch called the last minute, I couldn’t move either of the wheels. ‘Nine forty-five would be my guess.’
I was exercising during the beginning of “Cold Blood,” which told the story of two school-age children and their mother who died of gunshot wounds in or near their vehicle. In point of fact, the episode had aired earlier, but I had something else to do and so missed it.

Search for the Amazon Head Shrinkers
======
I’ve always been intrigued by other cultures or customs, so I intended to watch this program the moment I heard about it. It was on the National Geographic Channel at 4 PM. Unfortunately, I missed the beginning of “Search for the Amazon Head Shrinkers,” and soon decided to turn off the set in order to see what the Internet could tell me.

The New Detectives
======
“Oh,” I exclaimed as the theme music for “The New Detectives” came on, “that’s—“ ‘I used to enjoy this program two years ago.’
The episode started with the line, “After a drug overdose, detectives at the scene of a crime find themselves matching wits with a serial killer.” It’s the story of a man who claims he went to sleep while his wife was overdosing on cocaine. Almost immediately, the husband was the prime suspect; police suspicions’ grew as they uncovered other murders of people close to him. Motive? Money.

The next was about a woman who became violently sick after taking a drink of water—or, more accurately, just a sip. Suspects for the “unknown substance” were narrowed down to arsenic, cyanide and strychnine. When two of the three were ruled out, another test was conducted to discover that the toxic ingredient was potassium cyanide.

Next, a woman drowns in her bathtub. “The victim had enough ether in her system to knock her out.” And that was all of the program I saw because I went to wash my hair.

Salem
======
At five PM on the National Geographic Channel, “Salem: Unmasking the Devil” came on. ‘Questions abound about this time period, and there aren’t enough answers—more speculation than anything else.’ Witchcraft, superstition, devils and demons… the possibility of toxins or mental illness…’An interesting topic indeed.’

As I attempted to wake up, I put Oxygen on in the background and listened to the story of a man who died from methanol poisoning.

Before I really knew what that was [not that I'm well versed now, but it *was* covered in "The Poisoner's Handbook."

According to Medline Plus, “methanol is a non-drinking type of alcohol used for industrial and automotive purposes… As many as two tablespoons can be deadly to a child. About to to eight ounces can be deadly for an adult. Blindness is common and often permanent… The ultimate outcome depends on how much poison was swallowed and how soon treatment was received.”

What do you think of the man who stole a $400 skunk, then later returned it claiming it to be “hypoglycemic”? “A hypoglycemic skunk? What, do you sell donkeys with restless leg syndrome or something?”
