Just listened to part of the top forty
“”What Makes You Beautiful” was #8, which made me immensely happy
“Somebody That I Used to Know” was #7, both Mom and I love that song
“Glad You Came” was either #5 or #6, I’m not sure because they played it twice back-to-back
“Lights” was #1

Mom hasn't been feeling wellfor some days now. At first, she was thinking it could be allergy, due to all the dust in the house. And then she developed a nasty cough.
At 11:30 this morning, she went to the doctor - who found she has sinusitis, bronchitis, and an exacerbation of asthma. (She's still seeing Dr. Smith, who's now in Hershey and not Annville).

Thanks, VM, and no, not until yesterday.
The other day she told me she wasn't going to the hospital because it was full of the flu. Then, to stop me worrying, she said, "nothing's gonna happen to me because I'm too stubborn to let it."
Coincidentally, Georgette's mother also isn't feeling well. She was actually in hospital Friday. Georgette had wanted to come over Saturday, but when she called I was still in bed--and, after learning her mother was sick, I was glad she wasn't coming over (call it a precaution).

Mom called me by accident yesterday at 6:30, and this morning at 8. I don't know about yesterday, but this morning she was trying to call into the office.
Later, Edward stopped over at her house for the recipe for grilled cheese and tomato soup--so she had to tell him how to make that. "As soon as he's finished making his sandwich, I'm going back to bed." She still sounds horrible :(
On a happier note, my new walker arrived yesterday. Sue brought it up (I asked her Monday if it was here--and she said she'd let me know as soon as it came. I told her I was doing a countdown, because the one I have isn't holding up so well--and the wheels are clogged with hair. It feels like I'm trying to push a vehicle around or something.

Mom stopped over to put together my new walker. She hadn't realized it, but she ordered a junior walker. It'll work fine, but there's a three-inch difference between this one and the other one.

As of this morning, Purple Ninjas had 60 members, up 4 since the last time I'd checked. Tonight, I noticed that the newest member left us--and there was one other name on the board--another one who joined, then decided against it and left.
Of the 59 members we have, only four got points today--though the system does record eleven of us having logged in over the past 24 hours.
In other news, there's a wintery mix forecast--snow, sleet and freezing rain. The bad weather advisory is through tomorrow night at 11. I wouldn't mind if it was just snow, but that's not what we get--and, unfortunately, this is the week that, statistically, we always get hit with the ice/cold winds. (It also tends to get worse by the weekend, leading me to despise the weekend before/during my birthday.)
Yet other news: I'm continuing to work on mydrama. I'm not taping at the moment, partly because I can't and partly because I want to do it right this time. What I am doing is writing up scenarios and dialogue that I will either incorporate or use as is. The theme is "vengence," and there's a ton of ideas that fit. I won't say any more at this time, as I don't want to spoil anything (and require my own form of vengence--though that might be interesting, I think I'll pass).
Oh, I've also been listening to music--and having fun making recordings with my new boombox (everything sounds ten times better than my other one, which I moved yesterday from my bookshelf to the nightstand so I could plug it in. The old one only has a working radio, so that's the only thing I have it for). [The new one's in the living room, and is a Memorex.]

Mom and I haven't gone to see "The Hobbit" yet because, as Mom explained, it's such a bad cold and flu season this year. At the nursing home, visitors are being restricted--and they're discouraging mingling between residents.

The past week was a lesson in “the best laid plans,” that is as if I needed one.
Tiffany came Monday, as she was off for Martin Luther King Day. She didn’t get here as soon as she wanted, because her furnace was making a disturbing noise – and she had to wait for someone to come look at it. While I was waiting to hear if she was coming or not, I fell and whacked the side of my forehead on the chair (I tripped over the lid of my one container). So, I had this nice bump when Tiff finally got here around 11:30. We ordered pepperoni pizza from Marco’s for lunch, then spent a few hours talking and collaborating on the story (not to mention exchanging gifts – we didn’t get to earlier because neither of us had Christmas gifts for the other, and she usually combines mine with my birthday gift). She got me a Radio Shack recorder and an extra external microphone (I still haven’t opened the one Grandma got me last birthday, because the old one still works… though I noticed the other day that the wire has been stretched. At first, I felt bad because I didn’t think I had something for her. But then I remembered the tapes I’ve made since Mom gave me the Boombox – they’re of this program called “Echoes.” I kept the tape that contains the music from the CD of the month for January, and gave her the other.
**To be *continued.

Last Tuesday, Mom and Phil were going to come over for my birthday. It ended up being just her, as he had to return home. We had a nice time – she got Chinese from “the good place,” the one in Cleona—the story is, before I moved out on my own, I told Mom the Chinese place across the street from us just didn’t have food that was as good,, merely edible. The next time Mom said she was getting food from the Cleona one, I practically jumped up and down for joy. “Ooh,” I cried, “the good place.”
I didn’t eat my fortune cookie, but Mom read my fortune, which said something to the effect that I should lead the day, as “things will go your way.”
After dinner came ice cream – a Dairy Queen blizzard.
While I ate, mom told me about the fender bender she got two weeks prior – the amusing part of the story being that she didn’t have a commode in her house that night due to the construction.
Abruptly, she had to leave – on a full stomach, she realized there was pain radiating from where her ribs are, and that side was a bit swollen. So she went to medical express to check it out [diagnosis: she had managed to strain her ribs through coughing].

Wednesday, Grandma noticed she had pink eye. She had an appointment on Friday with the cardiologist, but didn’t cancel just in case when she went to the doctor, she was wrong about the diagnosis. But, no—so, she had to cancel plans with me for Thursday (she had been planning to sleep over that night, then we would work on a labeling project on Friday until her appointment. Afterward, Mom would bring her back here and we’d celebrate my birthday (Grandma had already baked a cake – white with a jello filling and whipped cream).
Forgot to mention that, on Tuesday, I got calls from Mom and Grandma and Michael with birthday wishes. I also called my former mobility instructor, who told me I’m officially an old lady because I’m thirty – and that Mom’s “a very old lady for having a daughter who’s 30.”
Stay tuned for upcoming news from the weekend.

Tiffany came again Saturday, and stayed longer than Monday. We got more of the drama done, and listened to music, and spoiled the bird…
She payed for lunch this time, as I was out of cash and unsure how the credit card thing worked. She got broccoli and cheese bites, apple fritters, and some other side [she’s known as “the side dish girl,” because she doesn’t eat that much and often orders sides. She’s also been known to eat a bowl of ice cream and call that her meal]. I got chicken tenders and curly fries.
Later, Mom called to ask if Tiff was still here—and, if so, if she was planning to stay for dinner. Because we had just talked about this, but also because she had told me she wanted to talk to Mom [actually, her exact line was that she’d like to see Mom,] I gave her the phone. Mom said whe was getting a manicure, but when she was done she’d be over.
Dinner was A&M. T iffany wasn’t especially hungry, but eventually decided on a small Italian sub. I got a chicken hoagie sub [large,] and Mom got a cheese steak hoagie.
Tiffany left soon after Mom, as she needed to get home to her spoiled brat of a dog.
One additional note before I end for the day [I’ll tell about Sunday in a later post]: Ethan was, I fear, mostly neglected over the weekend due to my company. [I’m still trying to make it up to him.] ;)

Sunday was pretty quiet – that is, until around five. That’s when Mom, Grandma and Michael came over to celebrate my birthday.
Dinner was burgers, and the place we got them from allowed us to say how we wanted them. I got mine with lettuce, cheese and mayo.
While Mom and Michael were getting the food, Grandma gave me a gift bag containing a bottle of Melaleuca lotion (she explained that, prior to her stroke, she’d been about to market the stuff. Apparently, that was her online project. She also said that the people understand, and said that she can continue whenever she’s ready.) She also brought a bag of Janice’s clothing (fourteen shirts and four or five pants – it’s half of the clothing that was in the box Bill sent her).
After dinner, we had cake (it was this strawberry jello and whipped cream topping. Delicious).
After that, Michael left for a bit, and “us three girls” watched the end of “Failure to Launch” on TBS. A few minutes into the next program, some kind of “live awards” thing, Michael came back and Grandma got ready to leave.

Fast forward to the present ay:
Got a call from Charlie Swank this morning. His wife, Helen, got him a Sirius Radio a few weeks ago, and he wanted to share that with me.
I told him about my birthday, and asked him to guess how old I was. He’d have taken four or five years off, so I gave him a hint: “Think of a number that ends in zero.” He can’t believe I’m 30; I can’t believe he’s 79(or thatHelen’s 78).
They’re now living in Lancaster, about ten or fifteen minutes away from his “favorite granddaughter,” Becky. (I forget the exact details—I have it on tape, but it’s been a while since I listened to that particular part of hise letter—but they had to move because they filed bankruptcy.)
After hanging up with Charlie, I called my mother—who was still sleeping (that’s becoming a pattern lately).

A bit later, I got out the ingredients to make my salads. As soon as I cut open the first bag of lettuce, I knew there was a problem—yet, somehow, it didn’t immediately register because I poured the “bad lettuce” into my bowl. When realization hit, I threw the stuff away, and rinsed out the bowl—but I didn’t dry it, which made my second bag inedible (there was, at least, some “good lettuce,” enabling me to make the salad—though mostly I just used turkey, chickpeas and cheese)). The rest of the bag wound up in the trash with the first. (Somehow, it never occurred to me until today that lettuce rots—I was already aware that it wilted. The thing is, I’ve seen rotten lettuce before—so why didn’t it register then?)
I was reminded of the one time when I was cleaning grapes, and instead of grabbing the collinder I snatched up the mixing bowl. Only when I noticed the water level rising, and how all the fruit was rotten, did I realize my mistake.

Later, Mom stopped by to get my laundry and take it to her house to wash. She has a lot to do at the house (and my clothes have been accumulating).
She also brought back the rest of my clean towels – and the food she bought for me at the Butcher Shop (when she said she was going there, I asked her to look at their dinners). So, now I have:
- A dinner of meatloaf, mashed potatoes and vegetables;
- Stuffed shells;
- Beef tips and noodles;
- Meatloaf. [I had that tonight, whereas I ate one of the salads for lunch—it was actually the last one I made, which had hardly any lettuce, but enough turkey and chickpeas to balance out the saltiness of the cheese – until today, I forgot which kind of shredded cheddar I used to get before I moved out).
