First of all, what's up with the phrase "rules are rules"? It's either said by those who are too strict with their "enforcement of said "rules," or they're too lax.

Second I'd like to thank everyone reading this--and assure you, yet again, that my previous blogs having been deleted are completely and categorically my fault. **You did nothing *wrong.

Which brings me to another rant: why is it some people (nobody on here, I'm sure) can't accept responsibility for*anything. "If blame is to be going around... just don't look at me."

The old reply to thread function was removed because it got to the point where people weren't even reading the announcements and assuming, by default, that they were somehow being wronged or forgotten or insulted or abused or cheated out of something in some manner.

11/27 - COMEDY
=======
When Mom got here the TV was turned off—but I soon had it tuned to channel 7, where “Friends” was on, followed by “Two and a Half Men.” At 7:30, my cell phone died before I could finish checking the TV listings; but there was nothing comic I could find, except for maybe “America’s Funniest Home Videos.” But I did manage to get to channel 74 on Newsline, and found that “Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?” was on.

DISHES
=======
I need to work on doing dishes each day so they don’t accumulate in the sink but most of the time I just don’t feel like it. ‘not that I really ever do.’

QUESTION
=======
Q. Mount Kilimanjaro is located on which continent?

“Yes,” I exclaimed, clapping my hands, “I got it right!” ‘To be fair, I was wrong at first, gbut changed my answer pretty much right away.’ I then asked Mom when she came back up, and she didn’t know, either. ‘I had a feeling the correct answer was Africa, but I wasn’t sure.’

SECOND QUESTION
=======
Q. True or false: Vermont is one of the thirteen original colonies.

I had no idea. ‘Neither did Mom or the contestant at the beginning of the 8:00 show, who just happened to be a rocket scientist. “ A rocket scientist got his first question wrong!”’

THIRD QUESTION
=======
Some of the questions were hard to hear above Ethan’s chirping, but both Mom and I had an answer to the one about an Isosceles Triangle. “An Isosceles Triangle has how many equal sides?” At first, she was as confused as I on whether it was two or three—but after some consideration she did decide it was two. ‘And she was right.’

FOURTH QUESTION
=======
The fourth question was about Mount Everest: “Mt. Everest is in which mountain range: the Andes, Alps, or Himalayas?” I knew it wasn’t A, as the Andes are in South America. As for the other two ranges, I kind of get them confused—though I somehow felt the correct answer was C. Mom thought it was B, and the contestant guessed either A or B. ‘The answer: Himalayas.’

TRASH
=======
As in previous weeks, I forgot to take the trash out until today. ‘While I’m at it, I better put as many bottles as I can in the Cadillac and take them over.’

11/28 - BILLS
=======
Grandma helped me pay the rent for next month. ‘I realize it’s not due till later in the month, but I don’t like these things to be late.’ I understand the five-day window thing, but still…

CHECKS
=======
I’m almost out of checks in the book. “Don’t forget to say something to your mom—“ As if I would. “If we write a check to Comcast next week, you’re down to one—“ Thanks for the reminder, but I’m on it.

GEORGETTE
======
When speaking to Georgette, I’ve found I need to weigh my words carefully. ‘Like, focusing on the fact that I’m concerned about her and wouldn’t want to see anything happen to her.’ She’s aware of the risks of overeating or eating the wrong things—but is often so overwhelmed with stress that she almost can’t help it. ‘Does she have no self control?’ Dorothy shouldn’t tell Georgette half the things she does, knowing how such things affect her sister. “He [her fiancee] wants her to cook and clean and do dishes, but he doesn’t appreciate her, she said.” ‘Then again, perhaps Georgette would worry more if Dorothy didn’t tell her.’ I did suggest that, next time she’s stressed over something, she should talk about it instead of gorging on food.

COMPEER
======
I called Compeer twice, once in the morning and again in the afternoon, because I’m concerned about Georgette.
When Ida answered the second time—I don’t like leaving messages as I never know if they’re received—I summarized the reason for my call. ‘She said she’d call me when she knew more.’

------
Jumped the gun there--but it was before I spoke to Georgette again, and I truly meant well.

DIABETIC COMA
======
When Georgette lay down on the couch Saturday, I was afraid she would go into a diabetic coma or something. ‘My thought was, “Oh my God, don’’t tell me it [your headache] was [caused by] something you ate!”’ And ‘Grandma didn’t make my fear any better by pointing out that I might not know right away.

------
Easy to overreact under such circumstances [Mom sure didn't understand why I did what I did]

KOHLS AD
=======
‘ This is the second week in a row I’ve had a Kohls ad for Mom.’ Last week’s was a Good Friday sale. This one’s good through Monday, I believe.

-------
Really? I felt *that* was worthy of note?

MOVIE
=======
I’d wanted to watch the movie yesterday, but I was expecting Mom, so I didn’t. ‘Plus, I wasn’t sure if my channel 57 was indeed FX.’ But it was, and “Twilight” played at 3:30. ‘I keep remembering how Michelle’s daughter told her, regarding the series, that she’d “screw Edward and make love to Jacob”. “Nothing like speaking one’s mind.”’
At one part I thought, ‘they edited out too much.’ At another part, ‘they switched things around.’ At yet another part, ‘this almost makes me want to read the book again.’ ‘Compared to the other books, “Twilight” is, not the one I like least, but the one after that. Compared to the movie, though, I prefer the book.

PHONE CALL
=======
The message said she’d missed me last night because she went to bed after her shower, as she still had a headache. ‘I missed her call because the cell was charging, and since Georgette works, I can’t talk to her until at least 5:30.’

NIGHTMARE
=======
Last night’s nightmare involved falling/rolling down an incline with poisonous plants at the bottom. ‘Almost like one of my stories, but for the toxic plants. Could combine elements of a book I read…’

=======
Many years ago, I had really disturbing dreams, but none quite like this: being chased by a gunman through a forest, catching my toenail on an electric fence in the middle of the ocean, being drowned by bullies, warning Mom to wear a coat and her contracting pneumonia, and one in which the temperature was ninety degrees in the middle of January.

-----
The one where Mom got sick was around Thanksgiving (in the dream - I'm not sure when I had it).

11/29 - FIRST CALL
=======
‘Time for the recertification results.’ Sue called to see if she could come up both to go over the paper and to bring up some packages for me. ‘Yipee—just what I need.’

INCREASE
=======
Seven dollars. That’s how much of an increase my rent will be come January. So instead of $156, the bill will be $163—two dollars more than it was when I moved in here. ‘I was paying $161 that first year or so, but then everyone got a $5 deductible for the water.’

NOT AGAIN!
=======
For the second week in a row, the screw on the left side of my walker’s loose. Unlike last week, it didn’t come out as far. Also unlike last week, maintenance was out, so Sue came up—and when she left, the thing was tightened, but looked lopsided.
