First of all, what's up with the phrase "rules are rules"? It's either said by those who are too strict with their "enforcement of said "rules," or they're too lax.

Second I'd like to thank everyone reading this--and assure you, yet again, that my previous blogs having been deleted are completely and categorically my fault. **You did nothing *wrong.

Which brings me to another rant: why is it some people (nobody on here, I'm sure) can't accept responsibility for*anything. "If blame is to be going around... just don't look at me."

The old reply to thread function was removed because it got to the point where people weren't even reading the announcements and assuming, by default, that they were somehow being wronged or forgotten or insulted or abused or cheated out of something in some manner.

I saved the cupcakes until I was up in the apartment. The fruit was delicious. ‘The barbecue also had peppers and onions.’

Georgette bought two of those bags of pretzels, and shoveled down one of them “like there was no tomorrow.”

Last night, Mom had to stay up to fight a fire in her oven because her batter cooked over, and ignited when it touched the heating element.

I REMEMBER THAT BURNT SMELL STILL FROM WHEN I LIVED WITH HER. HER SMOKE DETECTOR WAS SO SENSITIVE, I SWEAR IT WENT OFF FROM JUST ONE PUFF OF SMOKE. "False alarm," as they say.

ERROR
=======
I don’t know what I did. ‘No matter what combination I tried, the keyboard remained locked. And then I did a “warm reset,” and the error disappeared.’

PAC MATE POSSESSED!

FIRST MOVIE
=======
Technically, it started at seven. ‘I fully intended to sleep “until I wake up,” so I didn’t even plan to watch it.’ But, since I woke at 9, and my favorite part of the film was coming up, I decided to turn on ABC Family around 10. ‘As soon as the part of “Chamber of Secrets” I wanted to see was over, I muted the TV until the next movie.’

SECOND MOVIE
=======
The other time I watched “Prisoner of Azkaban,” I was interrupted by the phone. ‘The latest time, that is. Other times, I was out of it or otbherwise unable to follow it.’ So, I decided to give it another chance. ‘I still don’t care for it, but I followed the story just fine.’

VERIZON

No matter how often I go on, I’ll still dislike the site. There are so many links, and they only seem to grow with time. ‘At least the bill is paid.’

I'LL ADD ONE: AT LEAST I COULD PAY IT BY MYSELF BACK THEN.

ELYSHA
=======
Me: Since when does Elysha volunteer to do work?
Mom: She does—she’s changing, she’s maturing.
Me: Sounds like it! Sounds like, if we got the chance to spend more time together, we’d get along better than we did.

The conversation started when I remarked that Elysha seems older than she is. “Of course, that could just be me. Maybe it’s because, when we lived together, she sounded—and acted—so much younger than she was And maybe it’s because we rarely see each other, nd when we do all we have time to do is say “hi” and “bye.”

------
AND THIS... She's been forced, through one circumstance after another, to grow up way too fast.

I can’t remember anymore the last time I spoke to him, and then it was I who called him, not the other way around. So it was a surprise to hear his voice on the other side of the line.

For the past few months he’s been at the Colorado Center for the Blind learning independence skills. He finally graduated the other week, and found his own place in Denver. ‘It costs $96 a month, and he’s hoping to find a job soon.’ We talked for a bit, then he got tired and we hung up. “I’ll try to call again sometime this week,” he told me. “If not, I’ll be home again next week.” ‘Kind of reminds me of myself, who still refer to Mom’s as “home,” though I’ve lived here for almost two years now.

I DON'T DO THAT ANYMORE.

COMMUNICATION
=======
It was another “it’s so great to know people communicate” moment. ‘Around 12:30 or 1 I called Pam to pass on a message to Marilyn. A few hours later, Marilyn calls me wanting to know if I spoke to Mom yet! It was all I could do to bite my tongue.

According to nrcld.org, “The term [LD] includes such conditions as perceptual handicaps, brain injury, minimal brain dysfunction, dyslexia, and developmental aphasia.” It “does not include children who have learning disabilities which are primarily the result of visual, hearing, or motor handicaps.”

‘Damned public school!’ If memory serves, I was the first visually-impaired child Annville-Cleona had ever dealt with. Since then, there have been others—and I can only hope they had it easier.

‘I tend to draw more into myself when there’s something I don’t understand, and that makes it difficult for any type of social interaction. Until I become aware of what it is I don’t understand, and take steps to gain the insights I need to comprehend, I don’t interact well at all. How can I possibly communicate, or articulate, something which confuses me?

And things were compounded when I was younger because I didn’t feel valued—my imagination was discouraged, for one thing, and I felt forced to do things I either wasn’t ready for, or things I didn’t want to do at all.

Only some of my problems were actually academic. Some might even have called me a “problem child,” without asking the appropriate questions to determine why I behaved the way I did—and better help me cope in healthy ways.’

For years, I went through the day in a daze, “hardly knowing whether I was coming or going.” I was placed into the “learning support” class, something which I resented. ‘I saw others in there who appeared to be struggling more than me. Plus, I felt as if being placed in with the “slow” kids was yet another punishment.
