BIKE
=======
It was the first time I’d been on the bike since the day last week when the left foot fell out of the strap and I wound up hurting both my shoulders and backl trying to get it in. ‘Mind you, I wasn’t on long, but at least I *was.’

UNUSUAL SUSPECTS
=======
‘Why would you claim something like that, knowing it wasn’t true?’ This I thought of the “rumor” spread by these two teenagers, “bragging” about kidnapping a fifteen-year-old handcuffing him to a tree, and shooting him. ‘I could probably come up with three or four somewhat plausible reasons if I cared to speculate, but I don’t.’

The truth behind the boy’s supposed disappearance was so shocking, and so unexpected, I’m glad I was sitting down. ‘What kind of friends do this?’ These are the same two boys who claimed, right after the fact, that they waited up all night for their fellow fifteen-year-old to show at the dwesignated meeting place. |

‘In reality, they took turns beating him about the head, then buried him under a rock where his body wouldn’t be found. The one young man even dug up the bones and threw them in different trash cans in an attempt to erase the evidence of his own involvement in the crime. ‘And it took twelve years for the police, and the victim’s family, to learn what really happened that night Joey slipped out the window in the cabin where he was living at the time.’

12/9 - FACING EVIL
=======
Until tonight, I’ve only ever seen advertisements for the half-hour-long program. It’s about an undercover FBI agent, and there are two episodes on Friday nights. |

‘The first tonight was about Ashley and Tracey. He was a former ex-con who’d been sentenced for kidnapping; now he faced rape charges. “He believed his case would be thrown out if there was no victim,” Ashley told Candace. And, for her part, Ashley was concerned with upsetting Tracey by not agreeing to kill Sandy. “I was just doing my job.” |

Next was Jennifer’s story. She’s the one who was a nurse and fell in love with a prison inmate, earning her a spot on one of the episodes of “Deadly Women” I saw sometime back.’ [Nurse falls in love with prisoner, kills guard so he can escape.]

DRUGS, INCORPORATED
========
It was on National Geographic at 10. ‘It was the first episode of “Drugs, Incorporated” to get my attention; the topic was methamphetamine.’ A couple minutes in, the channel faded in and out real quick. “Oh, come on!” ‘It surprised me, because It almost never happens on channels other than 4.’

MY INTEREST IN THE PROGRAM LIKELY STEMS FROM GRANDMA WORKING AT CARON FOUNDATION AND EDY WORKING AT... SOME SIMILAR FACILITY, THE NAME OF WHICH ELUDES ME.

FIRST MOVIE
=======
I missed about half an hour of “Eight Days to Live.” I was sitting at the kitchen table, eating lunch, when I happened to check my watch. ‘Unfortunately, I couldn’t get into it because I missed too much. Fortunately, LMN routinely shows the same movies.’

NOTORIOUS
=======
I missed the first few minutes, but even so I knew that the case discussed was from another “Deadly Women” episode I saw. ‘This was the one about a former police officer who met a woman online and murdered her husband because he couldn’t imagine life without her. Then he found out how she lied and committd suicide, but not before leaving a paper trail that would lead authorities to her.’ She maintained her innocence, claiming she was “happy with her husband,” in spite of the fact that she couldn’t remain faithful to him. Of course, the e-mails between her and Jerry punched holes in *that.

There were two books from the Lebanon Community Library. ‘This was “back in the day” when iI still rode the minibus.’ The one title was “Dreamland,” but I can;’t for the life of me remember the other.

THE GIFT
=======
It was one of the only times he’ dbeen nice to me, and I have to wonder now if he wasn’t just buying my silence. I was about nine, as it was shortly before Mom and I left Mike. ‘Or was I eight? Not that it matters.’ |

The gift was in the form of a coffee cake and a jean jacket. [ONE DISAPPEARED ALMOST IMMEDIATELY, AND THE OTHER... TOO SMALL BY HALF!]

SECOND MOVIE

At 8 PM, I could have watched that program on National Geographic, but instead decided to watch “Frosty the Snowman” and “Frosty Returns.” ‘Both wern CBS, and I figured out that “Frosty Returns” was the VHS tape I had when I lived with Mom.’

TRIGGER
=======
I knew from the outset that something had most likely been triggered. “I have this ringing in my left ear when I dream.” I knew to expect something last night, as it was much worse. ‘The first thing I heard was voices—more like mumbling, as I couldn’t distinguish words. And there was really one voice only, raised in anger.’ I also heard the noise like the tailgate of a pickup or something. ‘I remember twisting around in bed to see if I’d heard the voice in reality.’ I then got up to use the bathroom, thinking how one doesn’t want REM sleep to be interrupted, and when I went back to bed the dream started up where it left off. |

‘I heard, pretty clear, Michael Boulton’s “Love Somebody,” which I haven’t heard in years. And I remember thinking and analyzing all throughout—the first time I can remember having a lucid dream. And I woke up thinking, “what else am I to gather from this?”’ Part of me wanted an alternative explanation to the one I’d come up with. ‘I must have been beaten at least once, or (a) I wouldn’t have had this dream, and (b) I wouldn’t write the graphic descryptions I do in my stories.’

UNFORTUNATE
=====
It’s really unfortunate I can’t talk to Mom about it. “It’s in your best interests to avoid such topics.” ‘When she touches on trigger areas, I become hesitant. |

I promised myself, last November, that I wouldn’t repress memories anymore because “if I do that, the next trigger will be ten times worse.”
