First of all, what's up with the phrase "rules are rules"? It's either said by those who are too strict with their "enforcement of said "rules," or they're too lax.

Second I'd like to thank everyone reading this--and assure you, yet again, that my previous blogs having been deleted are completely and categorically my fault. **You did nothing *wrong.

Which brings me to another rant: why is it some people (nobody on here, I'm sure) can't accept responsibility for*anything. "If blame is to be going around... just don't look at me."

Looking at some of these makes me think I didn't know how to write well!
======
Hastily, I pressed the pause button on the digital player. “About time,” I muttered. “Come in,” I called, and Tom entered with his tools—and a new toilet seat.

“The new one has metal fasteners,” Tom informed me. “Let’s see how those work for you.”
“Thank you,” I replied, my relief almost making me forget the hour I’d been waiting for him. Granted, it *was after hours—and more than likely he’d been interrupted from dinner, or whatever else he’d had planned. And just because he was on call… well, patience isn’t exactly my forte.

I'm not sure about this, but I THINK I'm still using that one

More trouble with the heating/cooling system (this one a BRAND NEW UNIT!:
======
**This is *ridiculous, I thought last night as I waited for Tom, the maintenance man, to look at my air conditioner. Two of the buttons, those that controlled the fan speed—one low and the other high—were jammed in the down position, and the fan wasn’t running. And to make things more interesting, it was making a noise like a lawn mower—albeit a sick one.

Just *thinking* about it pisses me off

The thing that gets me is, Royce and Tom were just up to put the new AC unit in. And it’s not working already?

It works fine for maintenance; then breaks down for ME later!
======
A day later, the buttons are fine—and the fan’s running—but it’s still making a hellish noise (some of the time [oh, yeah, *that’s likely to get me a new one {I’m guessing those guys have to hear it again before they order another, so I guess I’m stuck with this noise for the time being}])!

But the fridge is still good
======
It’s like my refrigerator: When I moved in, the motor was a bit o on the loud side to begin with. But a year later, it began to sound like a helicopter taking off. And sometimes, I hear it in the bedroom. And Royce thinks from what I’ve told him that it’s a compressor issue, but he doubts they get replaced unless the unit stops working (which, the more I think about it, is most likely what I’ll have to do with this air conditioner, at least for now [for the most part, it seems to work, and is not making the noise all the time {my old unit wasn’t even cooling the place properly}]).

One more thing: This morning, when I turned it on the first time and it started with the noise—it was spitting out hot air (as if I’d turned on the heat, and not the AC [noise or no, it shouldn’t have done that {and I heard the compressor shut off a few times, but it started making noise again real quick}]). But when I put the speed on high, it cooled down, so then I changed it back to low, and it was still fine.

------
Eventually, describing this noise caused them to remove it because "we don't trust it" (yeah - neither didI, which is why I wasn't even using it)

This is so funny because it was also so stupid
======
As I sit here, drinking in the sound of the air conditioner, I can’t help but think how loud the motor is. Yet, somehow, the sound is comforting, maybe because I’ve had so much trouble with the things breaking down.
How many is this one? The third? I’m not sure, but I think…
With hindsight, I now know the first compressor I had wasn’t working properly. It was always hellishly hot in here, even with the thing on high. And the air coming out of it was lukewarm at best, except on days that weren’t humid, and there just aren’t many of those in the summer.

It wasn’t until winter, or maybe spring, that I realized there was a problem. I have Mom to thank for that; every now and then, I heard a strange noise, but I thought it was from outside, not from my heat/cold register.

I remember the first time maintenance came up. I was told nothing could be done about it, as the noise wasn’t present when Royce or one of the other maintenance guys were up. “We need to hear it.” And that, I believe, was when I began to lose my patience. Or maybe it was more that I felt helpless, like I was stuck with this noise.
Factor in one angry neighbor, who kept coming late at night and waking me up, accusing me of making noise I wasn’t. Now, to be fair, she may have heard that compressor—but she may just as easily been shifting the blame from herself to me.

THAT GUY'S A GENIUS (yes, I'm being sarcastic)
======
Anyway, fast forward to when Royce said they were ordering another unit for me. Meanwhile, the compressor’s still on—but I was calmer, as it was a temporary thing.
Then the day came when they delivered it: Later, I would learn that maintenance installed five new units in the building that day. And at first it was fine—but then the buttons got stuck (low *and high were both in the down position, and nothing I did popped one back up, so I turned it off and called maintenance). Tom had to come after regular hours. “I’m switching control boxes, because that’s easier than switching buttons.” And the controls then went up and down smoother, but it *really began to make noise

then (turns out, the control box hadn’t been secured and was therefore rattling).
Even *that didn’t fix the problem. Oh, the control box was quiet, but then I began to hear this sound like grinding (the control box had probably masked the other noise, as I’m fairly certain that the day my fan quit, the day the buttons were slammed down, I also heard grinding). Only thing was, I wasn’t sure of the exact words at first to explain the noises I was hearing. So I didn’t call, and

HOTTEST DAY!
======
the next week all hell broke loose: it was the hottest day of the year so far, and the compressor just quit. Royce came up at one point to ask if I could wait until the next day, when he told me they’d install a new compressor, because they had some parts, but no new units (turns out, they *didn’t have any parts, but I’m getting ahead of myself here). So, after bringing up a fan and making sure I knew how to use it (telling me which controls are which as I can’t see them), he left. And at some point, I shut off the compressor (I’d tried to get Royce to turn it off, but he said it had to make noise in order to cool down), because it wasn’t cooling the air.

LOOK AT THE COMPETENT MAINTENANCE MAN (sarcasm again)
======
So, that night, I used the fan and opened the windows, until a thunderstorm forced me to close them. And I waited anxiously for 8:30 the next morning, when Royce said they’d be here

(turns out, it was 10:30 by the time they got here, and then the three maintenance guys just stood around like idiots, trying to breathe life into the unit).
So, OK, I already mentioned there were no “parts,” and no “units” either. But at some point, maybe due to the noise, maybe due to what I told them (the reason why I hadn’t used the air the night before), the “boys” switched off the unit, and Royce told me they were bringing the one from down in the office up here, as “we don’t trust it” (and I thought, “oh, *now you don’t trust it!”)

Let me repeat that: COMPRESSOR, I ABSOLUTELY FORBID YOU TO BREAK DOWN BECAUSE ROYCE AND TOM SAID YOU'RE "GUARANTEED TO WORK"
======
Yes, the motor’s loud—but so is my refrigerator. The important thing is it works, for the moment at least. Which reminds me: When they brought in the compressor, Tom grunted that “this one’s guaranteed to work,” and Royce replied, “Yeah, because I said so,” to which I thought, **compressor, I forbid you to break *down!

She does iron on patches, too
======
Whenever I need some sewing done, I go to my Grandma—she’s a great seamstress! And even though I’ve learned how to hand sew, I hate it—it’s so… tedious! Plus, whenever I try to make my stitches, they end up uneven—or something like that. And the times Grandma sews on Braille labels onto my clothes so I know what color I’m wearing, the stitches tend to last longer.
Anyway, I digress—for the story I’d like to relate is more recent than all that. As recent as April 2011, the tenth, to be exact.

Today I had three things for Grandma to “look at”: a pair of slipper socks with a hole in the toe of one, the strap to my ice pack that’s fraying, and the bag that fits onto my walker (which, I might add, she was instrumental in altering—originally, there were three Velcro clasps; now, there are three buttons to keep it from coming “unhinged,” if you will.) And so, she set to work, sewing and snipping…
After fixing up the pocket on the front of the bag, which I tore when I grabbed it when I stumbled the one day), she asked me if, instead of one big pocket in the front, if there had been two there. I said yes, there had, and so Grandma sewed that up for me (I did think, later, that it had only been one big pocket, but it made more sense to me to create two—that way, my cell phone and watch wouldn’t fall out as easily as they could have before.)
And so, yes, I’m very happy with the bag as it is now. For if something like what happened last summer were to occur again, the time the walker fell over and the cell phone went flying, I won’t need to get another phone because it’s less likely to fall out and break.)

Grandma also made the cover for Ethan's cage (Ethan's nickname is "Blue Man" because he's blue in color and I think of him as a young man - and what's really cute is the way he responds to the name)
