First of all, what's up with the phrase "rules are rules"? It's either said by those who are too strict with their "enforcement of said "rules," or they're too lax.

Second I'd like to thank everyone reading this--and assure you, yet again, that my previous blogs having been deleted are completely and categorically my fault. **You did nothing *wrong.

Which brings me to another rant: why is it some people (nobody on here, I'm sure) can't accept responsibility for*anything. "If blame is to be going around... just don't look at me."

The old reply to thread function was removed because it got to the point where people weren't even reading the announcements and assuming, by default, that they were somehow being wronged or forgotten or insulted or abused or cheated out of something in some manner.

I wasn't sure whether I should or not, but I told Pam yesterday to let maintenance know my compressor is louder than last year. Last night, I wasn't sure if it was still working (apparently, at night it shuts off so only the fan's running, that is unles it's too hot and then it'll stil come on every now and then). I left it on, as it was really humid last night (I guess if the compressor ran the whole time I'd be freezing, sleeping next to the vent - especially given that, due to the way it's working, I have to have it on high for their to be a noticeable difference)

The ambrosia was a big hit.

Lots of people at the picnic, as usual.

I got some sunburn.

Ate grilled chicken, a hamburger, chips, seven layer salad (Mom's contribution), some cantaloupe (Corissa's mother, Jennifer, brought some fresh fruit from the grocery store [watermellon, honeydew, pineapple and cantaloup], and ambrosia [there were pretzels, but I didn't have any of those; there were also hot dogs and sausage].

Anita's sister's husband passed away over the weekend - he had a heart attack.

lesley153 That's the best way for him to go, quickly and with little or no warning, but hard for the people left behind. Do we know Anita?

Long life and condolences to Anita's sister and their families.

I've written about Anita before. She's my great aunt (or whatever). Her husband's Charlie, who's Grandma's remaining brother.

Anita has heart trouble, is diabetic, and I'm not even sure what all's wrong with her.

It was on May 20 last year that she lost her mother, Peg (whose real name was Viola). Anita's been upset with her brother Kurt ever since (he was just abiding by his mother's DNR - her wish that she not be resuscitated and kept alive by machines).

Nancy Jane's Anita's younger sister. Nancy's husband's name was Benny. They live in North Carolina near one of their nieces, Kara, who has two kids, Matt and Alex (Zied's Alex's dad).

When Anita called Grandma Monday to give her the news, she was so upset Grandma couldn't tell who she was talking about. "It sounded like she said Annie."

On the way up to my apartment [Monday evening], Mom told me about the newest scam: someone calls, claiming to be from Medicare, and says he or she needs such and such information. “If you get such a call, hang up,” is how the warning on the elevator puts it. Scary to think some people actually fall for this stuff. Doubly scary how cunning criminals are becoming in order to evade detection. “Remember, Medicare will never call you – and they will never ask for your checking account information.”

When will I learn not to misrepresent situations?

Made the mistake of telling Grandma Mom was off this week, and that she'd told me not to tell her, when the truth was Mom didn't want *anybody to know she was off, as she didn't want people bothering her so she could get work done at home (yard work, etc.)

Last night Mom went to a dinner, then to see "Men in Black 3."

Before, she went to the Outlets in Hershey.

She called en route to let me know there was a severe thunderstorm warning. We got a storm, but not a severe one (surprising given how humid it's been lately).

“It was a nice gesture, but…” I took a bag of trash out without the mop or broom falling over. But when I came back in the apartment and gathered the recycling in a bag, the broom, mop and dustpan fell onto the floor. Grunting and cursing under my breath, I righted the broom and the dustpan, but couldn’t find the mop. THAT’S BECAUSE IT WAS IN THE PATH OF THE DOOR—AGAIN. When I went back in, one of my neighbors stopped to ask “are you OK?” I WAS MUTTERING TO MYSELF, AND KIND OF BREATHING HARD, BENDING AT THE WAIST TO GET THE BROOM. AND I HAD ALREADY GRABBED IT AND PUT IT IN THE CLOSET BY THE TIME SHE CAME ALONG. I appreciat4ed the help, so I stepped aside. WHAT I DIDN’T REALIZE IS SHE SHUT THE CLOSET DOOR, NOT KNOWING I PUT THE CADILLAC IN THERE, AND THAT I LEAVE IT OPEN.

I've been listening to a lot of radio dramas online.

Way back when (yes, listen to me spouting off like an old lady!), I used to listen to "Adventures in Odyssey" on the radio station. Unfortunately, it rarely tunes in for me. I knew they had a web site, but before last week hadn't been there. Now, I go regularly: they have full episodes you can go to.

I've also started listening to "Radio Theatre," which I used to listen to on Saturdays. Because the station isn't always clear, I'm not even sure when it plays anymore. But, online they have about 11 pages, with stories including "Les Miserables," "The Luke Reports," "Silas Marner," and "The Magician's Nephew."

Another demonstration of "the best laid plans can be circumvented by the hands of fate" or however that line goes.

Mom and I were going to go shopping at Wal-Mart today, and make a day of it: either go for lunchh, or have brunch before we left. But this morning, I felt queasy and sick to my stomach, so I canceled.

Surprisingly, I managed to ride the bike around six minutes.

Mom decided to "play in the dirt," as it's not as hot today as it has been.

I think part of my problem was that, last evening, I turned off the AC and opened the bedroom window. It wasn't open long, because there wasn't a breeze going, but I already felt slightly sick, and being exposed to the allergens didn't help any.

I turned the air back on and left it on, not wanting to wake up with a roaring, pounding headache. **So much for *prevention*, as I did anyway. *Sigh*

What happened to the cadillac? did the helpful neighbour make it difficult or impossible for you to get to it?

“Isn't the weather a source of endless joy!”
It is, Lesley.

“What happened to the cadillac? did the helpful neighbour make it difficult or impossible for you to get to it?”
I apologize for the confusion. I was *using the Cadillac to transport the trash and recycling, and was still using it when I walked in. The standard walker was over next to the open bathroom door. What the kind neighbor did was make it difficult for me to put the Cadillac away. (I grabbed the knob of the bathroom door, then slid my hands against the wall, until I found the closet door, which slides open and shut. I’m sure it didn’t take long to open, but the whole time I was nervous that I’d fall backwards [in the trash room, the trash bag got caught on the lip of that dumpster thingy when I was putting it in, and so didn’t fall down the chute like it’s supposed to. I actually did fall over trying to dislodge it, and had to get up carefully lest I cut myself on the chute. It would have been nice to have help then – but, of course, we can’t have everything.) Like I said, her help was appreciated, and I didn’t get mad when I found out what she’d done because she’d just been trying to help. How was she to know I keep all the closets open so that (a) I don’t crash into them, and (b) to make it easier to get to stuff? How was she to know that the Cadillac was stored beneath the coats?)

lesley153 Sometimes being helpful isn't enough. Sometimes you need to ask what you can do that will be helpful, and where things go. It would have been even better if she'd asked.

To give her credit, she did initially ask what she could do to help (not exactly - she wanted to know if I *needed* help, but to me it's much the same thing - perhaps better, because then I could say whether I wanted it or not).

The trouble is, she should have asked if I wanted the closet open or closed(hello, there's a reason it was standing open, a reason I'd have had no trouble articulating if she'd have asked the right question, or made the right remark. But after telling me she'd get it, she didn't say anything else ]I was glad of the help, as the mop hande or broom handle had caused the closetdoor to come away from the wall.])

Still, not to make excuses for her, people (for the most part) are uncertain how to interact with me (as if being blind means my intellect is impaired as well).

Corissa (Robbie’s wife) is due July 19. She let me feel her belly on Monday, and said she can’t wait for the little one to be out of there (she said something about being lucky if she allowed it to stay through the end of June.)

Katie, who owns the horses in the meadow by Grandma’s, is also pregnant. I think her due date was today (either that or tomorrow).

I now have an open cut on my hand (I slammed my right hand into the desk when I fell – hit it on a jagged edge… well, a sharp part of the wood). The skin was already dry, so… (Let’s just say the bleeding doesn’t want to stop).

Feeling slightly better :)

Mom was going to visit Stephanie, but can't get ahold of her, which must mean she's having a bad day

It's kind of damp, but the AC's still on as I don't want to risk the windows with allergies as bad as they are.

Got a call from Stephanie earlier. "She's not herself," as Mom said later when she called. After visiting Steph, she went down to Grandma's--after asking if I had any unmet needs. When I assured her I didn't, we agreed to talk when she got back home.
