First of all, what's up with the phrase "rules are rules"? It's either said by those who are too strict with their "enforcement of said "rules," or they're too lax.

Second I'd like to thank everyone reading this--and assure you, yet again, that my previous blogs having been deleted are completely and categorically my fault. **You did nothing *wrong.

Which brings me to another rant: why is it some people (nobody on here, I'm sure) can't accept responsibility for*anything. "If blame is to be going around... just don't look at me."

The old reply to thread function was removed because it got to the point where people weren't even reading the announcements and assuming, by default, that they were somehow being wronged or forgotten or insulted or abused or cheated out of something in some manner.

AGAIN, IT'S NOT WORTH IT
======
I feel like hitting something. Already, Royce and Tom were up about this air conditioner; it’s real cool now, but as it heats up… there’s not much that can be done, unless the blinds are closed to minimize the heat coming in. Reminds me of the two really windy days, when the heat appeared to do nothing. I was told then that maintenance couldn’t do anything until the wind died down. How helpful is that?

MAYBE TO YOU IT'S NOT

She didn’t tell me before as she didn’t want to worry me… but Grandma has skin cancer. She found out when she went to the Thyroid Doctor, who’d ordered a biopsy of something on her chin the week before.
Next Friday, Mom’s taking Grandma to the office to get the tumor removed. “I won’t be put to sleep, but I will be sedated.” And she’s not worried about the procedure: “To me, it’s not a big deal.”

It’s not all about the food, but it still counts a great deal. The Italian sub was “bland,” the macaroni salad was at least better than Zweier’s, and the dessert was… outstanding—the best part of the whole meal!

During lunch, Julia sat next to me—and even came up to my apartment to accompany me down to the Community Room. I call her so infrequently that at times I forget why we get along so well. She’s so funny and sarcastic, and we can have an intelligent conversation—something which, unfortunately, is lacking with most of the other residents.

I also got to meet Mary, who lives next to Julia. At the end of the meal, I gave her my phone number.

Every now and then, I’m filled with an overwhelming sadness when I remember those I’ve lost touch with over the years. Other times, I just shrug at some of those I used to know.

I knew Colleen Schmoyer from public school; her parents watched me until Mom could pick me up after work. We weren’t in the same grade; yet we’d talk and play together, sometimes watching Soaps or “Little House” on TV.But then, I graduated… and she graduated, and began college at Messiah, and though I called she never returned them. And now I hear she’s married… how times change.

Then there’s Jenn Smith. She once volunteered for Compeer of Lebanon County, and we were matched up. But then she moved to Harrisburg to afccept a job offer… and we lost touch. The last time I tried her number, I found it had either been disconnected or changed.

Meagan Green was my pen pal from Oregon, that is until she started college, at which time she decided she couldn’t fcorrespond with me anymore. But the problem started with her landline and cell phone, which started acting up; when people would call, they could hear her but she couldn’t hear them.

The only two friends I’ve kept in contact with over the years are Eric Miller and Tiffany Flory. Eric went to a different district, but at one time we went to preschool or something together, then later met up at the School to Work Program. But Tiffany was in my school, in fact the same grade. She used to live in Annville, but even after moving to Harrisburg we haven’t lost contact with each other—we just don’t talk as often as we used to because our schedules don’t allow.

Then the more unpleasant memories intrude: how Kerstin Kutler pretended for years to be my friend, then turned out to be a real snob; how she and Emily what’s- -her-name, who became our class valedictorian, sat behind me and made inappropriate comments; how Jeremy Long and so many others teased me relentlessly; how Roshontia Fisher befriended Colleen and Tiffany and I, then all of a sudden wasn’t; how Caroline Heffner gave me her phone number, but didn’t really want to talk to me, so she’d have her brat of a brother—Andrew, I believe his name was—pick up and annoy the hell out of me; how Kathryn and Carolyn Keene acted friendly at first, then showed themselves to be just like the others; how Ashley Godwin used to ignore me, yet now that she’s married seems to want some sort of a relationship with me.

Of course, there are the people from School to Work, but it would take too long to write of that here.

Yesterday I read an article on the healing power of pets. “Pet Smarts,” it was called. After reading it out loud to Ethan, I went over to sit next to him: and I felt my muscles instantly relax as a broad smile spread across my face and my eyes closed; and as I talked softly to him, I thanked God for this little birdie who’s taught me so much already. “Healing power of pets.” Without doubt.

The whole thing leaves me wondering if I’ve finally lost it. After sitting at my desk, trying to breathe normally, I tiptoed to the bathroom. “Am I paranoid?” I pondered aloud. Am I going crazy at last?”

MORE SO 403 THAN ANY BOOK
======
It could have been the mystery novel, planting ideas in my head. Or maybe the less-than-neighborly relations with the occupant of 403. Maybe *I made the sound that frayed my nerves so bad; but, no. I most certainly did *not scare myself, as I’ve done a few times in the past. Nor was it my imagination. But, though I believe I know she was at my door, I can’t prove it, as the noise wasn’t repeated more than two or three times, and I didn’t call out. “Whatever you do,” I thought, don’t move,” I thought, and so I allowed my breathing to slow before I decided on any action.

NOT SOON ENOUGH
======
If there’s one thing that gives me comfort, it’s that the occupants of 403 are moving in a few days. Then, there should be no more late night disturbances.

The resident in apartment 211 seems nice enough, but from what I’ve heard… “She’ll act nice to your face, then talk behind your back.” And she uses the elevator at odd hours of the day or night: “She tries doors.” Looking for stuff to steal? Probably, if what I’ve heard is any indication.

TO WHICH RITUAL ARE WE SPEAKING HERE (THERE ARE SEVERAL)
======
Like so many aspects of my audio drama, “The Ritual” is difficult to explain, and harder to understand. So many aspects… complexities… “It doesn’t make sense” is a line repeated over and over until, with a groan, one is inclined to turn off the tape. Either that, or erase the entire thing and begin afresh. Except that, with so many different concepts, nothing made much sense to begin with.
As to the origins of The Ritual… perhaps it was hatched back in Beiytano Cormadyx, the notorious “Realm of Nightmares.” Of course, that assumes that villainous “Fairy Lord” was involved the entire time; which, it should be noted, seems highly unlikely as he considered himself invincible, and therefore had no need for such a ritual. Instead, what seems more likely is that the evil Xynoran Ccommander, who pretends to be Scenorian, conceived of the plan after the Fairy Lord’s Demise. “And the prisoners’ blood will be slowly drained from their bodies, and be transferred to Him in order to revive… the greatest evil the Universe has ever known.”

STILL A RECURRENT THEME
======
I can’t remember when justice—or the lack of it—hasn’t been a thing with me. It’s a recurrent theme in my stories. For example:

CHANGES, CHANGES, CHANGES
Everyone is laughing and talking, listening to music, when all of a sudden Alonso seems to lose it:
Maria (deadly calm): Why do you have Somahri up against the wall?
This is how the last tape of my drama can be summarized. And the explanation turns out to be that one of the demons the Forces of Light assume to be dead really isn’t. And, pretty soon, more than one royal personage is threatened with imprisonment:
Maria (still calm, but with a more defined edge to her voice): You do realize that, as long as you are here, you’re under the jurisdiction of the King and Queen of Sentoria, and that as such I have no option but to throw you in the dungeon.
