I finally got news on the refinancing of the building. I know Mr. Rush said something last year about it, but I didn’t know (a) all the repairs, or (b) when said repairs were to take place.
I now know that the handle on my door was also installed in apartments 103, 203, 303, 403, 6-03 and 703. Same deal with the new faucet I got in the bathroom and the one in the shower. There are yet more changes proposed, some inside and others outside. The CEO invited any residents who wanted to come down to talk with him at 1:00. Had I known earlier than yesterday, I’d doubtless have attended, if for no other reason than to hear what everyone had to say.
**Note: For those interested, the amount I owed Grandma was *$44*

TheFight
As she fought to wrench control of the weapon from the gunman's grasp, Jazmee knew she was fighting a losing battle. "No!" she cried, thrashing around in
her bed.

He waited two hours in the cold till he was sure they'd gone to bed. During his wait, he scooped out the area for the best point of entry and finalized
his plan.
At first, The Assassin was going to use the window. However, the wind was frigid-and strong.

The family of eight was very cautious, coming from a high-crime area. The husband, Lorseti Kuvanov, wanted to move again because "The Dark have selected
our village as its next target."
His wife, Sofia, felt he worried too much. "Just because the news services say Midochotria's on the list doesn't mean we are," she pointed out reasonably.
"I mean, Mynator's a big village, with over 380 huts! What are They going to do-kill us all?"
Lorseti, being a native from Sentoria and having seen first hand what They could do, didn't find his wife's words one bit comforting or funny. "You're underestimating
Their potential," he warned.
"You forget, Husband, that I've seen them in action myself-after all, I was born and raised in the Kingdom of Darkness itself!"
And that was when Lorseti Novaseta began to wonder if (a) his wife had been corrupted, or (b) if she'd been one of Them from the very beginning.

When he was assured that all eight were sound asleep, The Assassin crept to the front of the building. The hut was securely locked, but that didn't phase
The Assassin. It didn't even trouble him, seeing as how his new plan didn't even necessitate going inside.

“Put it down!" Jazmee commanded in her most authoritative voice.
"Where in Protector's name did _you come from?" The Assassin sneered, studying the lit torch in his right hand.
"Wouldn't _you like to know?"
And thus began the struggle to get the weapon from The Assassin without harming herself or setting either one of the huts or the landscape ablaze. But our
hero was unused to combat and untrained in the use of her Powers, and soon felt her energy draining away. "No!" she cried helplessly as she sank to her
knees.

Another Hot One
Jazmee made a mad dash for the control panel and cranked the air conditioning to high. Just another muggy day-and another cse where the weathermen were
wrong.
"I feel ba for those without air conditioning," she thought as she waited for her apartment to cool down.
"Same here," a vo ice agrd. Just a few months ago, she would have jumped and assumed herself to be going mad-but by this point she had come oexpect, and
even welcome, the telepathic powers she'd been given (it certainly beat having peoplecommunicate to you and being unable to talk back!)
"How's it going, Anastasia?"
There was an awkward silence, during which the 27-year-old thought she'd offended the other girl.
The 11-year-old took a momet to gather her thoughts. "One moment, Jazmee."
Very carefully, she disengaged the mental connection betwee them. She'd felt something... orheard some sound... a disruption of some kind? Where was it
coming from?

Can't Live
Jazmee leaned against the counter for support, breathing hard.
"I know I shouldn't let things like this get to me, but..."
Part of her knew she was upset over nothing. Afterall, the Universe was erupting in chaos-and here she was, enraged by a broken machine!

Irritation
Jazmee made a disgusted noise in the back of her throat, but kept on scrubbing.
"Hair-always more hair!" She made a dismissive gesture with one hand. The hairball was still there; wellk, of course it was! "It's like, the attack of the
malevolent hairball!"
The 27-year-old squatted down and scrubbed vigorously at the spot. "I wouldn't be doing this if not for that stupid spill..."
Jazmee stopped. If she were totally honest with herself, that wasn't a bit true: the apartment needed routine cleaning-at least once a week in the kitchen,
two weeks for the rest of it. Unless, of course, she wanted to live in a pigsty-which she didn't!
The massive hairballs... Well, two options: either take better care of her hair-or get a cat. (That way, at least, she could pretend the hair wasn't hers!)

Wake up call
Jazmee swore vehemently as she was roused from sleep by the fire alarm.
Breathing hard, she ran over to the door and flung it open. "Wish I knew what was going on!"
As if in direct response, she heard a tired-sounding Mind Voice. "It's just a drill."
Jazmee let out the breath she hadn't realized she'd been holding. "Why, then, is the alarm still going and nobody coming to my door?" There was no reply-but,
then again, the 27-year-old didn't expect one.
"It's OK, baby," Jazmee told the cowering little bird. "You're safe."
"Loud noise!” Ethan squawked agitatedly. "Me no like loud noise!"
"I know," his owner said soothingly, reaching to switch on the CD.

"The Roots of Obama's Rage"
I knew last night I likely wouldn’t finish it. “Let’s see how far…” Answer: the second chapter. That other political novel got read far longer than this. First, it’s far more recent. Second, it focuses more heavily on politics—largely because of the first reason..
I may have, at one time, thought I could major in something like criminal justice or political science. I quickly learned, after I took a course on American Government in high school, that I couldn’t. The subject, in one word, bored me to tears. Over the years, I’ve found I can stand more of the subject than I could then—but my interest is still low.
I do gravitate toard certain aspects of the issue, but not all that political sh*t. Too much political language = a one-way ticket to Snoozeville.

"Mr. Darcy, Vampyre"
I don’t know about this one, but I was drawn to it because it’s been a while since I had a “Brilliance Audio.” I’ve had some that were really good (“Song of the Dragon”) and some that were really bad (what was that called? “Safe House”?)

Re, post 96, my digital talking book player died today after I charged the battery full yesterday
Last week, I discovered I'd made a big mistake by charging it each time it said it was "low" (the noise it makes when the battery's dying grates on my nerves)
A full battery's supposed to be good for 29+ hours; now, I'm lucky to get to 19+ (and that's certainly not what I
got yesterday or today - I don't listen to it for 19 or 29 hours straight!)
So I have to call the Library for the Blind to get a new one sent to me

I took out four bottles to be recycled.
The trash room's just next door to my apartment.
When I came in I heard my cell phone ringing.
"Figures," I said to the bird. "The minute I step away from the phone is when it rings!"
There are three bins for recycling: one for glass, one for plastic... and what was the other one?
I only know which one takes plastic.
Oh, I remember now - the third is for alluminum!
I have two trash cans in the apartment - one for trash, the other for recycling.
I leave the soda cans in the recycling can (unless I forget to take a few plastic bottles or jugs over as I drain their contents.
I still wonder why I found a full can of liquid in the bathroom that one time. Who would have left it there on top of that little counter over the sink? Not that it matters now. |
