First of all, what's up with the phrase "rules are rules"? It's either said by those who are too strict with their "enforcement of said "rules," or they're too lax.

Second I'd like to thank everyone reading this--and assure you, yet again, that my previous blogs having been deleted are completely and categorically my fault. **You did nothing *wrong.

Which brings me to another rant: why is it some people (nobody on here, I'm sure) can't accept responsibility for*anything. "If blame is to be going around... just don't look at me."

The old reply to thread function was removed because it got to the point where people weren't even reading the announcements and assuming, by default, that they were somehow being wronged or forgotten or insulted or abused or cheated out of something in some manner.

When I got off the phone I said to Ethan, “we’re not unscathed.” The remark was in reference to one I made after Hurricane Irene, in which I said we’d be lucky just to escape unscathed through this hurricane season.

As Mom was on her way over to visit, I sat in the chair by the intercom, facing the window. “Let’s play a game,” I said to Ethan. “It’s called, ‘when’s it going to storm?”’ After a bit, I went to the desk and moved the weather radio to the table. “Chance of rain, 50%… chance of rain, 50”%… chance of rain, 70%.” I listened, feeling more and more uneasy. And then I called Mom: “Is it just me, or does it look like it could rain at any second?”
Mom: That’s about it.

After hanging up, I went back to listening to the weather radio. And then, I heard a knock at the door.
“It’s your neighbor…” I’m ashamed to say I didn’t get her name, bbut she had a big container of Dutch Macaroni Salad she’d been planning to take someplace the next day. “The roads are still impassable, so you’re welcome to it.”

When Mom came, she put some containers of food in the fridge, swept the floor, then sat next to me on the couch.
Mom: Did you get a call from the Water Authority?
Me: No.
She explained that there’s so much water that the manholes—those big metal covers over the drains I remember walking over when I was younger—“are no longer taking in water, but spitting it back out.”
Mom: For now, they’re saying it’s OK to use the water for drinkingbut we’ve got to conserve how much we use.
She listed several items that were listed on the message, including:
- Taking shorter showers;
- Not running the water while brushing your teeth.
Other things, like not watering porches, etc., don’t apply to me.

I was reading an article earlier about the devastating impact of Tropical Storm Lee. As I remarked to Mom earlier, “It has to be very bad indeed if it’s being compared to a storm back in 1972.” Agnes, 39 years ago, was d ubbed “Hurricane Agony” by the governor.. Lee, though, is “worse than that”—countless still have water in their basements, and with more rain and storms forecast, I feel a pervading sense of dread.
I’ve never been good at waiting. I remember the night Irene hit, yeloling at the window, “If you’re goint to rain, then rqain!” I didn’t “taunt the weather” tonight, but I began to laugh hysterically as my sense of irritation grew more pronounced.

Mom’s call this afternoon informed me she’d be at work until around 8: “We’re having a recognition dinner, and I’m a greeter.” Unfortunately, she didn’t get to speak to me—I accidentally hung up the phone or pressed a wrong button, and it went to voice-mail. At least she left a message—I need to work on making them myself, but it’s so annoying when people call and hang up without leaving one.
Every year around this time, Mom’s week is always turned upside-down. I think it may have been Monday, or maybe Tuesday, that she had to be at the office by 2 AM as the eleven to seven staff was making breakfast for the residents. And that was the day she realized that “eating a western omelet at 3 in the morning doesn’t agree with me.”

As if to demonstrate how stupid our weather is, the humidity’s returned and temperature’s gone back into the 80’s. Last night it was humid 60’s. I managed to get by without the AC to sleep, but I woke up around 5:30 to put it back on.
Tonight’s to be humid and 64; tomorrow, a humid 74; and continued humidity into next week. Hard to believe the first day of autumn’s tomorrow!

Grandma wasn’t up this week, as she didn’t feel well. She would have come Monday, but her throat was really sore—and at the doctor’s on Tuesday, she was diagnosed with pharyngitis and given antibiotics to clear up the problem. “It was the worst sore throat I’ve had,” she told me earlier today.

I’ve had a busy week so far.
Monday afternoon I got my new Mac card, and tried to activate it—but couldn’t as the bank didn’t have my landline number and I didn’t want to use my cell because that would take up anytime minutes. So I called to make the change—and was told to wait till the next afternoon to allow the system to update itself.
On Tuesday, I called Comcast to check out Cable options in my area. The sales representative told me about a thing they call Limited Basic, which costs roughly $25 per month, plus a $30 installation fee. I forgot to ask exactly what channels are included—she told me there are some extras included with the local channels—but she took down my cell number and said she’d give me a call in a few days to hear my decision.
Also on Tuesday, I called to activate the debit card, and was getting frustrated because the system kept telling me “your card cannot be activated,” and telling me to call the bank. But when I did, I came to find out the card *had been activated after all!

END OF THE SEPTEMBER 2011 FOLDER
======
Wednesday was the day I called Zweier’s to make my weekly delivery order. Said groceries arrived today, Thursday.
This morning I got a call from Pam downstairs, telling me of a notice she was handing out: “A resident meeting has been called for Tuesday, September 27 at 2:00 PM.”
Also this morning, I called the Alley Center for the Blind and spoke to Chris: I’m glad to be in the thick of things. I’ve been out for a week and a half.” We now have a meeting scheduled to talk about my goals on Monday at 1:30.
And, finally, I think it was Wednesday I called Grandma to ask if she wanted to go to the Lions’ Christmas Party. It’s on Wednesday, December 21 at noon, and the venue’s been moved from the Quality Inn to the Country “Club. She said she had to check the directions first, then she’d let me know. I have until December 9 to RSVP.

NO IT'S NOT--THAT WAS THE END OFTE SUMMER FOLDER

On to other things, more recent things, Mom had fun completing the Warrior Dash. It was a number of obstacles: apit of fire to jump over, some walls to scale, a patch of mud to run through and one to crawl through, and this obstacle with swinging tires. Oh, and another they had to crawl with involving barbed wire. She had to be at the Poconos at 11, so her coworker picked her up at 7. It took about an hour and seven minutes for the eight of them to complete it, and Mom got some sunburn.

Update on Anita:

She's feeling better, not in as much pain, but still refuses to discuss what the doctors found (we know it's something connected with her bloodwork).

Thursday she didn't have her prscriptions filled right away, as she didn't want to bother Grandma more than she already had

Prior to feeling better, she contemplated committing suicide

Spent $300 on groceries, including six loaves of bread. (Wise guy came in grunting, apparently carrying two heavy boxes, and said "it's Santa Claus; I've come with your Christmas presents." He then went on to say "it's your favorite delivery guy.")

I got a call this morning from Sue, saying she had two packages downstairs, and was it all right to bring them up? She did, and brought her daughter (she jokingly said she gave the daugher the heavier box). The pqackages were the booksI orderedsome time back (I sent in another order form Monday).

Grandma had to attend a viewing today, which I didn't remember until I called her. When she got back to me, she saidattending viewings remind her of the funeral and viewing for her sister four years ago.

veronikkamarrz Hope you're keeping tabs on Anita. Who knows what she might do.

The delivery guy sounds a little odd. Maybe just me.

Hope MoM's car gets better. :)

I just called and spoke to her husband, who’s screening her calls. We talked for awhile, then he said he was going to go find her. She asked if she could call me back, and I said that would be fine. (Oh, forgot to mention he was watching Gunsmoke.)

It’s not you, VM, he sounds a little odd to me as well. (I’m afraid I’m encouraging huim by laughing at his jokes, but I can’t help it.)

Yes, Mom’s car is finee. She came over briefly last night so I could sign Grandma’s birthday card. She sent out invitations on the weekend or Monday, inviting people to a Card Party for Grandma. So we’re all buying cards and sending them to her. (I wrote a personal message in mine, saying I hoped she she has a good year ahead.

I read one of my four books yesterday :) It was the secondbook in "The Missing" by Margaret Peterson Haddix.

It's been in the nineties the past two days (I keep asking Mom if it's still hot enough to roast an egg on the pavement.)
