Have you ever visited a psychic, fortune teller, palm reader, anything like that? What were the results? Did their predictions come to pass?

lesley153 Once, when I was about twenty, and had one of the most boring boyfriends ever invented, he and I went to a fair, where I stumbled into a palmist's tent. Boring boyfriend stayed outside.

Yes, it was a very long time ago, but I recall three elements.

The first was about the different ways men and women respond to what she does: but I suspect that she was using it to gauge what I thought.

The second was her pronouncement that I wouldn't marry the boy I was with. That was easy if she read my body language when I said the boyfriend was outside.

The third one was that I wouldn't get married for a few years, and that I would have two children, at a comparatively advanced age. I married someone else five or six years later.

When I got pregnant at a Comparatively Advanced Age, I remembered the fortune-teller, and wondered if it was going to be twins. It wasn't, which was just as well - I couldn't handle one!

Another one, years later, was a whole crowd of us going to see a psychic, in the name of corporate entertainment, so it doesn't count. It was soon after the death of my aunt, whose name began with B. He asked me if I had a relative whose name began with J. He was thrown when I said no, because J is the commonest initial, and should have been such a safe bet. I remembered later that my husband's sister's first name and my brother's middle name begin with J. I was home by then. What a shame.

C30 When I was in my teens, I had a maiden aunt who used to dabble in "fortune telling" and she predicted that I would "find happiness late in life".

After 2 marriages ending in divorce, I remarried for the 3rd time at age of 52 and am still happily married as I enjoy my 70th year. If 52 onwards can be considered "late in life", then she was absolutely spot on.

In the 1970s, my mother sent for 'personalized' astrology reports for me, her, my father, and my brother. They were quite long, and elaborate, using not only the dates of birth, but the places and times, as well.

Each of us was given a personality profile, and predictions of our lives to come.

Had to laugh, however, at my father's 'life to come', since he had died two years earlier :-0

My sister in law dragged me off to a psychic in a shopping centre about 6 months after my husband died. Neither of us had been there before and no appointment had been made. The first thing she said was "Who's the man with the beard and dark curly hair ? He's connected to both of you." Yep, my husband, her brother.
Then she told me I would find another partner (my thought - when hell freezes over) and that I already knew him.
She saw a police type uniform, and both my sister in law and I said, no, that's her brother, my brother in law.. but then she described him.. and it wasn't !
Almost two years after that, I met up with a man I used to work with, who was at the time employed as a security officer.. blus shirt, navy trousers and tie.. similar to what West Aussie police wear !
Anyway, we have now been together for seven years....

madhuiyer15 I sometimes acted as if I was an oracle while my friends believed me. Surprisingly, correct predictions are easy to make, all you need to do is observe the person for a few minutes, and pay attention to each and every word they say. You can neatly guess their past if you did the above right !

lesley153 Good point. I have been known to sum people up on the basis of a snippet of information or a single sentence. The older I get, and therefore the more I see, the easier it is.

My mother used to do that, and it did my head in. Now I do it, I am doing my son's head in. *smirk*

I've been to 5 different psychics after I began to read about healing properties of alternative herbs and meditation.
I've suffered from various ailments and was hoping anything alternative would work...even the hocus pocus stuff. I believe in self healing so I thought maybe predicting the future was a possibility.
I knew each time they would only be reading me and not predicting the future because no one can see through the infinite variations of time unless they know the person on a deep and intimate level.
Anyway all five where WRONG, and two of them gave me the reading for free so I know they cannot read me.
Long story short: No one can see into the future only the pattern of our behaviors can be predicted through examining our own repeat behaviors and thoughts.
If you are a predictable person then your reading may be predictable. If you are incredulous you will accept their reading as validating your wishes or fears.

About 30 years ago, went with a neighbor lady to a place called Lily Dale, located about an hours drive South of Buffalo where I live.

We had a wonderful time having our palms read and talking with the mediums and other people. So long ago; don't recall anything about predictions and the like.

What I do remember is the beautiful and tranquil location, the Healing stump and pet cemetery there and also a wonderful little restaurant where we had lunch.

All in all, a wonderful experience I shall always remember.

Oh, ye of little faith. Sometimes they get it right:

Many of the predictions of a 13th century Scotsman called Thomas the Rhymer came true, some of them centuries after his death.

Not exactly a prediction, but very interesting and well documented:
