Subject: Weird U.S Town Names
Date: Jul 27 12

I live in Australia but I've noticed that a lot of U.S towns have very strange names. Here are 18 of them.

Tightwad, Missouri
Dinosaur, Colorado
Biggers, Arkansas
Cokeville, Wyoming
Aimwell, Alabama
Looneyville, Texas
Rice, California
Wanderoos, Wisconsin
Winkleman, Arizona
Colon, Nebraska
Alligator, Mississippi
Kermit, Virginia
Frogville, Oklahoma
Bucksnort, Tennessee
Gayhead, New York
Monkey's Eyebrow, Kentucky
Eureka, Oregon
Happy's Inn, Montana
Pringle, South Dakota
Enigma, Georgia
Roachtown, Illinois
Bivalve, New Jersey
Peach Bottom, Pennsylvania
Elephant Butte, New Mexico
Sopchoppy, Florida

Are you American? Do you live in a town with a strange name?

Greatguggly I am American but I don't think my town name, Landrum, is strange. I have one though--Truth or Consequences, New Mexico.

Greatguggly Also, I am very familiar with Sopchoppy. I lived close to the Sopchoppy river. Lots of fun to be had there.

Intercourse, Pennsylvania -- mostly populated by the Amish

In the same general area of the state are Blue Ball, Bareville, Bird-in-Hand, Paradise, and Mount Joy.

sportsherald I'm a fan of such names, but we run a danger of repeating a lot of the same names as discussed in the Very Odd Place Names post. There does seem to be a never-ending supply, however. Starting with Alabama, I nominate Burnt Corn and Eclectic.

Two Egg, FL, King of Prussia and Bala Cynwyd in PA.
PA seems to have the most bizarre names of all the states.

Ooops, sorry, Chicken Bristle is in Kentucky, not Tennessee. Don't want to pass on false information.

Had a road named Upthecreek in FL, and a family whose last name it came from. Hartford, CT has Asylum Ave and Sigourney St. I've seen some odder names, but cannot mention them here.
