As some of you have noticed, FunTrivia is currently running a "Charity: Water" campaign on our homepage. Although we have never done anything like this in our 15 years online, I thought it would be cool to come together as a community and make a real difference in the lives of people who weren't lucky enough to be born somewhere where water is plentiful. Charity: Water is a charity that builds water projects in parts of the world that lack access to clean water. They use donated money to drill water wells and pumps, and directly help people in need. Getting people in need access to water is one of the ways we can most directly improve their lives. Some are a little wary of charities, because you often hear how a lot of money is wasted in the administration and management of the charities themselves. Charity:Water is fairly unique in that large private donors pay for all of the management costs. So, when you donate $20 to this charity, all $20 goes directly to a water project. The other thing that makes this charity unique is that if we can fully fund a project (cost $5000 - serving 250 people), we will receive photos of the actual development when it is complete, along with GPS coordinates and a customized plaque on the well. We would really get to see exactly where our money went, and who it helped. I will of course post the project completion report on FunTrivia when it is done, 18 months down the road. So FunTrivia's goal is to raise $5000 through donations from FunTrivia players. We have already raised $1700 of that $5000, so we have made great progress already! Any amount is greatly appreciated -- even $10 helps get us to our goal. As an extra fun incentive to help us reach our goal, if you donate at least $50, I will send you a 6-month Gold Membership gift certificate.
