I'm here for the challenge, but I will tell a story anyway. We found out yesterday that the high school band my daughter is in won first place in their category in the local music festival. They have been invited to play in the final concert, where all category winners perform. So tonight my best friend, who's daughter is also in the band, and I will be dressing to the nine's to go out and watch our daughters perform. My daughter has a solo, which comes at the end of their last song. So the last thing the audience will hear is my daughter playing her flute! Yay!

While driving to church on the Natchez Trace Parkway here in Mississippi, we spotted a feral black sow and her three black and brown piglets cheefully meandering on the shoulder. They may be considered a nuisance but they certainly are a sight to behold.

The latest version of the popular computer simulation game "SimCity" was released in North America this past Tuesday, March 5. I have a copy of the game, but I don't have a computer to run it on. It requires a dual-core machine to run it, and the most powerful computer I currently own is an older Pentium IV. A Pentium IV is great for browsing the Internet and for playing trivia, but not so good for running games that require a dual-core machine.
The "SimCity" franchise has seen its highs - "SimCity 3000 Unlimited" and "SimCity 4" with the Rush Hour expansion are two of the best city simulators I've ever played - and its lows - there's still a lot of angst over "SimCity Societies". So I'm really anxious to get a good rig that can handle the game.

Think i have discovered Dark Matter. As that can be the only reason for the self service tills in the supermarket to tell me "Unexpected item in bagging area". I can say that i only bought two loaves of bread for the purpose of toast.

I teach Computer Science at the college level. I am perplexed and disheartened by how intellectually lazy our younger, incoming students are!
In the long run, I fear less people will enter, or stay in, the teaching profession. It will not be the hours, or the low pay that drives them away, it will be this frustration with the quality of the students!
It is a JOY to teach a student who wants to learn! Conversely, trying to get a student to want to learn that does NOT, is frustrating and demoralizing!
I wish that I knew the cause, of this lack of ambition, responsibility, interest, etc. Then perhaps we could work on a cure!

I am not much for country music but I heard a song for the first time yesterday that has been out for some time going back to last year. It was called "Pontoon" by a group called Little Big Town. I was really surprised. Damn good song!

My last class of the day was cancelled today, so I got to go home early. It's like getting early dismissal back in elementary lol.

I too am here for the challenge.
I too am still waiting for that epic challenge to pop up and am wondering if I would recognize it if I saw it.
I was just talking with a young woman who was surprised today that she scored 800 out of 800 points on the reading section of her GED exam - she dropped out of high school a few years ago to get married and start a family and has no idea how smart she is. She will be a dream student in someone's community college class, and I hope she will go on to university.
I have seen university students who can't write a complete sentence. I have seen university students cry over an A- when they really deserved a C.
My 18 month old great-grandson pointed at an umbrella this morning and said "UM-brella!"
