Amtrak saga cont. We get to San Antonio at 1:30 AM. Most people are asleep, when the conductor comes on the intercom to say, there will be a 4 hour stop. The train crews have to change the seats around. So everyone has to get off the train. Grumble grumble except for the smokers who are already heading for the closest door. One group of 6 went to a locak watering hole across the station parcking lot. A bigger bunch headed for Denney's for food. I needed to stretch my legs so M. and walked down one block, to the next st, then turned for two blocks. Then back around to the station. Decided to go again, but this time when we approached the station, No Train!! Three of our traveling companions said it would be back in 45 minutes. Then the watering hole group showed up with astonished faces, and what happened to the train? Oh well and back they went, to stay until our cars got back. One of the people was a 5 yr. old with his dad. Way past his bedtime, he did behave quite good. At 3:30 our car finally arrived. As did 4 different taxis that had taken people to see The Alamo, and River walk. The watering hole group showed up stagering all over the place and had to be helped on. One set of passengers arrived by taxi almost as the conductors were calling all abord. A quiet trip to Alpine. Where the conductors could't find one of the departees. He had been with the drinkers and had gone to sleep where he wasn't supposed to be. The conductors had to carry him off the train. Which gave the smokers quite a long break. After Alpine we headed for NM and west.

The west wind is roaring outside, gusting up to 100 kph, which is normal for us at this time of year (Newfoundland, Canada), and the ocean, which is a gunshot away from our house, is very angry and noisy. Sunshine during the day, but nippy - typical Fall weather!

Rainy here too, and we had the wettest summer for 100 years! We really don't need any more just yet.

I wish it were winter out-- tonight I took my air conditioner out of the window in preparation for cooler, windier weather. Hopefully it sticks.
To be fair, it would've been out earlier but I had a weird inkling that there were spiders living underneath it and I really didn't want to deal with one of my greatest fears while doing housework.

Kyle, speaking of spiders....in our bathroom one day there was this HUGE honking spider, all hairy looking, like a mini tarantula. I just about dropped on the spot. I wasn't going to touch it or squish it. Well, I called Jim in and he came and said, "Holy crow, look at that thing" and then got it into a paper towel and let it go outdoors.
I searched on line for spiders and the best I could do was to identify this creature as a Fishing Spider. I didn't know they fished! lol Is that how they invented "Spider Wire" for fishing line? Hahaha! All kidding aside, it was pretty interesting to see and to read about this creature.

I recently had a day out at the Harrogate Health and Healing festival, a friend and I go every year.
Whilst there I purchased a rock salt therapy crystal. It is amazing! It can be used warm or cold.
I bought one for my friend, who burnt her arm, getting something out of the oven, she put the crystal on cold, and hey presto, redness gone, no scar!
My daughter, who is very scientifically minded, accepts that crystals do have healing properties.

There are still some really good people around. I had the misfortune to have a tyre blowout on Sunday and needed a new tyre. Our local tyre fitting company moved heaven and earth to get one and get me back on the road although it was a lot easier for them to say I would have to wait until Monday. My thanks to them all.

There's been a lot of discussion about the weather recently - is everyone here British? I thought discussing the weather was supposed to be our bag :)
I went to see a friend's band called Negative Pegasus at their album launch on Saturday. It was a great gig and they were a good band, but when we got to the tube station at 11:55pm we had just missed the last train and had to get a taxi home. I was cursing London transport. Is there a major capital city where the trains/underground finishes earlier? Answers on a postcard...

I was 12 years old the last time the Detroit Tigers won the MLB World Series. Only 6 more wins and they can do it again. Go Tigers!

Just a cute story...
During Biology class the teacher mentioned to the children that if a cockroach were the size of a human being it could run 100 mph.
From the back of the clas a voice muttered, "If a cockroach were the size of a human being I could run 100 mph!"

A couple of weeks ago, I got to fly First Class for the very first time in my life. While we weren't showered with massive privileges, it was very nice to have ample room in my seat and extra leg room. Special benefits? They serve you your drinks BEFORE takeoff! If I drank alcohol, I would have enjoyed free drinks, but as it was, I just had a Coke. And instead of being tossed--er, handed--a bag of peanuts, I got to choose my snack from the deluxe basket containing chips, crackers, and cookies. Woo-hoo! It was really nice being at the front of the plane when it came time to deplane, rather than back in row 38 where I usually am.
At the end of the journey, I spent four days with several friends whom I only see once every couple of years. A good time was had by all.
Not really an exciting story, I know, but we take our pleasures where we can find them. ;-)

I have children who are picky eaters. Every time we go to a fast food place, I order them a plain hamburger, and ask "please no cheese or anything but the meat and the bun". The cashier will almost always look right at me and say " do you want cheese on that"? It drives me insane!!!

Why do the days take so long to get through, yet the weeks and months seem to disappear in the blink of an eye?

I have 2 8 week old kittens. The other night they came looking for me when I was taking a bath. They stood on their little hind legs, looked in, and looked up with absolute horror on their faces! They probably thought I was really bad to have to sit in all that water.

We finally got some rain here in Oregon. The last time was the beginning of July. Everything was getting too dry and the fire danger level went from extreme to low.

Here's one challenge I can do!
My computer crashed some days ago, and it's decided to stay down. Grrrr...In the meantime, I am handwriting everything. Ever tried handwriting pages of essays after having typed them for several years? 'Tisn't fun. Shows how dependent I am on my computer.

Had wonderful experiences recently on holiday in Madagascar - a fascinating country. Crouched, with video cmaera in hand, less than 3 feet in front of a wild indri (lemur)that had come close to the ground in order to eat some soil - its natural cure for stomach problems caused by eting too many of the wrong leaves. Normally thse are only seen high in trees so something special.

We had recently adopted the cutest little girl. She was all of 9 months when we got her home. She adjusted to us well and everybody in the family just love her. Took her out for a weekend outing recently where the little one "attracted" her first boy friend (grrr!)... the little fellow, all of 13 months old (to my daughter's 15 months), followed my daughter everywhere the whole weekend, tugging and pulling at her hair and hands...my poor daughter, initially fascinated with the newcomer, soon got tired and was soon avoiding him (yeaah!), clinging to me whenever she sighted him :-) It was great fun to watch the 2 ankle-biters the whole weekend :-)
