I took advantage of the right to vote and encourage all to do so too! If you don't vote, don't complain! Go!

Hard to come up with a story, but I have a bit of a heartwarming one. My oldest niece is 27 and is special needs, so she'll always be living at home. I recently visited my sister and my niece wanted to do nothing but hang out with me. Websurfing? That was fine, she was happy to watch me. Bowling or TV? That was fun too, as long as she was with me.

It is a beautiful day in South Arkansas. Sunny and bright and lots of trees changing colors and allowing us to enjoy living. Morning walks are delightful and one gets to say Hello to the folks and their animals out strolling the streets. What a great day !!! We need to feel this way as if we are upset with the way things have happened recently it does not help the situation one bit.

Okay, three mallard questions a la Jeopardy! Answers first, then the questions.
This mallard conquered England in 1066.
This mallard took over New Amsterdam in 1667.
This mallard defeated Napoleon at Waterloo.
Ready?
Who was the Duck of Normandy?
Who was the Duck of York?
Who was the Duck of Wellington?

Work seems to be sorting itself out so onto the fun stuff. I play trivia once at week at a social club with some friends. After a bit of a drought, we won last night! It's only $100 but we bank the money we win through the year and go on a holiday once a year. We rent a house on or near the beach and have a week of relaxing and fun, with the food and often a dinner out paid for by trivia! :-)

I am a big fan of horror stories and films but I think the film I watched last night was the scariest! It's a good job my partner watched with me because there is NO way I'd watch alone. There's a tv programme here in the UK called "Most Haunted" where a team of people investigate supposedly haunted buildings or places. The film I watched last night had the same premiss but things DID happen! (In case anyone wants to watch it's called "Grave Encounters".)

Yesterday, during the election, I worked at a polling place, handing out candidate cards. I've done it every election since I was 18 and to me, it's one way I participate in being an American citizen.
The weather was so cold! It was 35 degrees and the wind chill was in the low 20 first thing in the morning. My hubby, who hates politics, showed up unexpectedly, with our canopy, some tarps and a brand new radiant heater with a propane tank!
I shared my little oasis of warmth with other volunteers out in the cold and rekindled an acquaintance with one of my Girl Scout leaders whom I hadn't seen in over 40 years...all because my hubby was kind enough to worry about my comfort on a raw day.

Once upon a time there lived a little black kitten. He was very hungry, and he had earmites. He found his way to a really nice yard with a hole under the house, and there he sheltered himself. The people who rented the house, illegally converted into apartments, did not seem interested in him, although he kept making himself a nuisance. When one of the occupants was working under his car, the kitten kept rubbing up against him, but the man just pushed him away. One day a woman moved in with the man. When she saw the kitten, she began to feed him. Then she convinced the man to let the black kitten inside, but it took many days of persuasion. At first the man would not touch the cat. Then the couple took him to a vet, and in his excitement the little black kitten pooed on the examination table. The couple switched him to an all-canned-food diet and brought him back frequently until the diarrhea and earmites went away. Now he is a big, black, beautiful cat and king of the castle. The End.

I went to my polling place and went to the first room and told the worker my address. Not all of the streets were on the map and she directed me to the other room. After they couldn't find me on the list in that room I pulled out my voter card and it was discovered that I should have gone to the first room.

I was doing a scary story unit with my year 11 english class. We decided to do them on Halloween.
I closed the blinds and put black cloth over the windows of a small room. In the middle of the room we turned on strobe lights from a couple of phones and placed red and orange cellophane over them to simulate flames of a fire on the ceiling. Someone had a crackling fire application on their phone so we switched it on. We had spooky music playing softly in the background. On the wall we projected a picture a spooky cemetery with thunder and lightning going off.
The room has computers along one wall, so we switched all the screens off, the room was very dark, but with just enough light that we could still make each other out.
We sat in a circle and listened to the stories.
One of the students said in his story "Suddenly! A light shone through the window!"
Just as he said it, all the computer screens switched themselves back on. We all screamed!
It was fantastic :)

I was on the phone with my mother today, and somehow the subject of blood types came up. It turns out that my parents, my older sister and myself all have different blood types. I spent a good six or seven minutes trying to explain to my mom that this is entirely within the realm of possibility (in our specific case, I am type O and my sis is AB, which can result from an A parent and a B parent).

Ok, here's a true story about a strange adventure that happened to me. I was living in a little cottage on a farm when they employed a new farm manager who moved in to the cottage next to mine. He was a strapping, handsome young man. I invited him over for a cup of coffee after he had been there about a week or so. We chatted easily and I found him to be very pleasant, polite and an overall 'nice guy'.
Two days later the place was swarming with police. To my horror I discovered that the 'nice guy' was in fact a serial killer who had been abducting and beheading young women in the neighbourhood! They found the bloody knife and other evidence in his cottage but he had escaped. He's never been caught......
