You can try Bleach, it's an interesting anime and the story flows from each episodes. It's the story of a teenage boy who can see spirits (souls) he later becomes a Soul Reaper. It's good and very actiony-anime type show! You can also watch Black Butler, Pandora Hearts, Naruto, Vampire Knight, Fairy Tail, Death Note. They are all action anime with a flowing story. |
I hope you'll like, have fun!

Anime is so diverse I'm not exactly sure what you want but for action shows with a developing storyline you can't go wrong with Death Note, Code Geass, Trigun, Basilisk, El Calzador, and Fullmetal Alchemist just to name a few. All of these shows have plenty of action and are relatively short about less then 50 episodes for any of these shows so it won't take you months to finish a whole series.|

I would recommend "Inuyasha". It has a ton of episodes, and each one continues where the last one left off, like a long story. It was my favorite show for a long time.|
My second choice would have to be "Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood". It is interesting and each episode pretty much continues where the last left off. The only complaint is that there should have been more episodes. There were quite a few; I just wish there had been more.

I have been wanting to try FullMetal Alchemist. I love the music from the show; I listen to a Japanese Pandora radio station often, so hear it a lot. Every time a song comes on from the show, I 'thumbs up' it, and want to watch it. I keep forgetting.|
I think I shall try that, and Bleach. :)
Thanks so much all!

You won't go wrong with Fullmetal Alchemist. It's only 51 episodes plus a movie though. They have a second series which is a retelling, but I don't know how good that one is.|
If you don't mind smaller series, you can try Hellsing (dark; vampires) or Samurai Champloo (comedy; middle age Japan). They don't really have endings, but the series were still pretty good.

Like everyone else said, you should try FMA if you haven't already. Good story & action.|
As for One Piece, it's not hard to find, but the anime is not as good as it used to be. You could try the manga there, if you want.

The Twelve Kingdoms is great epic fantasy. It fully creates its own world and has lots of well-developed characters.|
