Boy, this one is hard! Could it be Phil Silvers' "This Laugh is On Me"?

You DID say it was an autobiography, so I hope at least I'm heading in the right direction--could it possibly be Fred Allen's "Much Ado About Me"?

Oh nuts - you're right Linda. I withdraw my previous guess on the grounds of being stupid.
How about "I Love Her, That's Why! an Autobiography" by George Burns?

Upstart, you just might have it--I was hesitant because "I Always Had Shoes" was unpublished, and Benny's daughter incorporated a lot of it into her book. I guess it still counts as an autobiography, though. There just don't seem to be too many violin-playing comedians out there!

Jack didn't publish his autobiog (which was going to be called "I Always Had Shoes") . But Henny Youngman certainly did one. I'm hoping jabbs is correct, because I can't think of anyone else lol!

It is indeed "Sunday Nights at Seven" (kinda thought Nero's violin would do it).
Jakeroo, (et,al) my apologies, it's a memoir, inspired by his unfinished bio. It was comleted using material Jack had written and finished with input from his daughter, Joan. The book was ultimately published in 1990, 16 years after his death..
PS: George Burns wrote the forward.
If I scr*wed anyone up, I hope it doesn't mean banishment from this board :-(

21st century novel.
Not YA.
Not crime.
Large and some would say "old fashioned".

American writer. Male.
Not made into a movie, and I'd rather they didn't bother.
