Topic: What Book Am I?

Subject: What Book Am I?
Date: Sep 02 12

This works like the movie and people threads. You ask yes/no questions, and the person who correctly guesses the book gets to pick the next one.

Books can be either fiction or non-fiction, must be classified as a novel or novella. This means no plays, poems, or short stories.

I will begin with:

What book am I?

Please feel free to leave feedback for the site administrators. We will take all feedback into account as we tweak and add new features.
The old reply to thread function was removed because it got to the point where people weren't even reading the announcements and assuming, by default, that they were somehow being wronged or forgotten or insulted or abused or cheated out of something in some manner.

would that be regarding the Bataan Death March? And if so, are you "Ghost Soldiers"?

The Forgotten 500, per chance?

Jaker: It would, and I am.
A deeply disturbing but excellent book by Hampton Sides.

Your "toin"

Thanks Paul.

This one is a children's book published in the 20th Century. German-born author.

Upstart: the new avatar seems very fitting : )

Jabbs: Welcome back. You were missed. The "drafts" could have been written in German (or French even) but I can't find anything that verifies that one way or the other. However it is documented that the book, as we know it today, was first published in the U.S. (in English).

Just super busy with my mother's surgery & rehab, holiday singing gigs, general Christmas planning, etc. This year's crazier than most.

Is the book fantasy?

Oh, and please send some of your winter air and precipitation down our way--it's blooming hot (mid-70s) and no rain here in north GA, and I'm ready for winter!

Best wishes for your mom : ) And we've had over 10 inches of the white crap in 2 days - you can have as much as you want!

There are "adventures", but not typical fantasy like dragons and vampires and elves and things. The book is best suited to young children.

I'll go with "Mog the Forgetful Cat".

no, sorry salami. Not a bad guess, as there is an animal involved in the story.

Is it part of a series?

Jakeroo

Yes, there were more books with this character. Not sure that you actually need to read the rest in order, so the books are not truly "serial", per se.

Could it possibly be "The Neverending Story"?

Jakeroo

No, sorry, that's way too "fantastical".

Except for the beginning, it is assumed that the rest of this book (and the others that follow) takes place in the U.S.

Translated into many different languages.

You can buy associated merchandise.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar?

What is the writer's gender?

Toby1: not the Caterpillar

jabbs: now there's a question I was waiting for someone to ask lol. The answer is both, as the books were co-authored (despite the fact that not every edition of the books carry the woman's name on their covers).

Curiously, no one has tried to pin down the date of publication, which could certainly help narrow the choices lol.

Ok, I'll bite (would have been the next question, anyway.) Was the book published in the first half of the 20th century?

Jakeroo

yes, during WW2.
