Subject: What Book Am I?
Date: Sep 02 12

This works like the movie and people threads. You ask yes/no questions, and the person who correctly guesses the book gets to pick the next one.

Books can be either fiction or non-fiction, must be classified as a novel or novella. This means no plays, poems, or short stories.

I will begin with:

What book am I?

Please feel free to leave feedback for the site administrators. We will take all feedback into account as we tweak and add new features.
The old reply to thread function was removed because it got to the point where people weren't even reading the announcements and assuming, by default, that they were somehow being wronged or forgotten or insulted or abused or cheated out of something in some manner.

Prize-winning author?

He is the recipient of the Grand Master Award handed out by the Mystery Writers of America.
He wrote several series, one of which was particularly popular.
And he wrote a very famous novel under another name.

Is he a native New Yorker, now deceased?

How about Ed McBain? And the stand-alone book that was super popular "The Blackboard Jungle"?

I was going for his nom de' plume when he wrote "Criminal Conversation", sometime after BBJ-but that's close enough.

You have the honors...

BTW: The nom de plume was Evan Hunter, although his birth name was Salvatore Lombino. He picked Ed McBain out of a phone book :-)

I knew his birth name was something Italian, but knew that he legally changed it in his 20s to Evan Hunter. I still miss his 87th Precinct novels. What did he call the city that everybody knew was NY? Can't remember.

Ok--change of pace. This is an Australian author of fantasy novels, nominally considered YA.

Jabb: ( from Wicki)
The series is based on the work of the police detectives of the 87th Precinct in Isola, a district of a large fictional city based on the New York City borough of Manhattan. Other districts in McBain's fictionalized version of New York correspond to NYC's other four boroughs, Calm's Point standing in for Brooklyn, Majesta representing Queens, Riverhead substituting for the Bronx, and Bethtown for Staten Island.

Jabb: I miss him-I read every book he wrote, under whatever name he wrote it. A great talent.

"Zenith" by Dirk Strasser?

Nope. He's an Aussie, and this series is technically considered young adult, but that's kind of debatable.
