Okay, then....I was trying to stay away from China as there seems to be so little crime fiction there translated into English, but how about "Blood Crime" by He Jiahong, or Lei Mi's "Mind Crime:Portraits"?

No idea if this one has been translated into English, and definitely won't count it as a crime series, but how about "Treading on Thin Ice/Startling By Each Step/Scarlet Heart" (All titles I've seen used) by Tong Hua.

'The Winter Queen' by Boris Akunin it is, the first in the 'Erast Fandorin' series which I cannot recommend highly enough.
