It's because the ACLU are all too happy to take on cases that destroy people's idea of "normal". What sane people call tradition they call stereotype.

That was a pretty mean-spirited thing to do, complaining. Wonder if she's got any friends.

The dance had to end because not every girl *has* a father. And, not every father takes on the fatherless girls.
My daughter's father died when she was 12. It would have been horrible for her to have been alone for such an event.

No one was required to attend if they did not wish. No one was alone even if they came solo. Our teachers and staff understood not everyone is on equal standing regarding parents/family and planned accordingly.
Considering the number of times my family wasn't available to attend my school events, thank goodness more parents didn't demand the events be cancelled.

You should read up on the ACLU, George. I think you'll find it to be a horrible organization. They form politically biased opinions that they know most Americans disagree with then lobby or sue to make them law. They seem to be at war with American traditions.

The story said she had no father figure. Wouldn't her mother be to blame for that? It's not the fault of the hundreds of people who had to stop a long standing tradition because the mother didn't choose a partner.

Nicely put, Rayven. She didn't have one, so damned if anyone else can have one.

I have no idea what made me think that the KKK was out of business. Clearly alive and well.

I am confused. Sureley that's illogical. An association meant to defend civil LIBERTIES fights in order to BAN a school event?
The concept of non-discrimination apparently is stronger than the idea of liberty.
Why don't they also ban birthday parties because Jehovah's witnesses don't have them?
It would make me laugh if it weren't also a bit scary.

This ties in perfectly with the attitude some (especially those now in power) in this country have that life isn't fair, but doggone it, they're going to make it fair! Better to have everyone miserable than just a few. At least that way it'll be fair. If you have a father figure(or a lot of money) you got it off the backs of those who don't.
