Topic: Cryptic Crosswords

Subject: Cryptic Crosswords

Hi,
My son-in-law was impressed by my addiction to FT and my "success", in his view:)- (I consider myself average, by the way), anyway, he gave me a copy of New Cryptic Crosswords by Daily Mail for Christmas because he thought that would be something for me. The other way around - I am lost. It´s too difficult for me. Nevertheless, why not to share some. (I know the answers as they are at the back of the book:))

The old reply to thread function was removed because it got to the point where people weren't even reading the announcements and assuming, by default, that they were somehow being wronged or forgotten or insulted or abused or cheated out of something in some manner.

PINS backwards - SNIP, which is a word for a bargain.

1) Many the mouse Ron used as a pain-killer (8,6)

Answer - ENORMOUS NUMBER (Many)

mouse Ron (anagram) = Enormous

Jolana, would you kindly let us know if the answers given so far are correct or not?

All is correct, 25 is SNIP.

How about 4, 7 and 12?

Thanks jolana ... I'll have another go at the remaining clues, but don't have the answers yet.

Perhaps houston, upstart or salami can help again?
