Hi,
My son-in-law was impressed by my addiction to FT and my "success", in his view:)- (I consider myself average, by the way), anyway, he gave me a copy of New Cryptic Crosswords by Daily Mail for Christmas because he thought that would be something for me. The other way around - I am lost. It´s too difficult for me. Nevertheless, why not to share some. (I know the answers as they are at the back of the book:))

The old reply to thread function was removed because it got to the point where people weren't even reading the announcements and assuming, by default, that they were somehow being wronged or forgotten or insulted or abused or cheated out of something in some manner.

I'm not sure how it fights with "slight effect",

But USE CID STORY adapted (or scrambled) could be DISCOURTESY

I've only just seen this and I'm off to bed now ... afraid it's that time on this side of The Pond ;O)

Will look back tomorrow to see if there are any still unsolved. LOL

Swami, you've certainly got a taste for these now, and "slight effect" in the clue of your previous answer relates to the verb form 'to slight' meaning to show disregard or to snub someone.
