Given that so many of us are struggling, would it be permissible to trade titles?
What I mean is, rather than give up completely ... as there are several people who may be struggling, perhaps some authors would benefit by a trade with another?
Perhaps as a one-shot deal, ask authors who want to trade their titles to say so. They go in a pot and get randomly redistributed. (No one gets the title he or she put in.)
But it's a one-shot deal. Take the title or bow out of the Commission.
Whaddaya say?

Oh, and if I had gotten the title "Dog and Pony Show", I would have written the quiz in ten seconds flat. Anyone who gets that reference will know why.

I don't think this commission is running any longer than most previous commissions.

The whole point of the Commission concept is that you commit to use whatever you get. Being able to trade later would reduce the challenge significantly.
Of course, it helps if people who submit titles try to submit titles for which they themselves can think of at least a couple of different ways to use it.

There are Commissions which have run much longer. I myself have submitted titles after taking 3-4 months to write the quiz. So I don't think there's anything particularly off about this one. My title is great to work with and can fit multiple categories. It's just that real life got a little busy. And I agree with L_T - being able to trade titles takes away from the challenge of Commissions. No matter how difficult the title, I'm sure you'll find a hook to work with. :)

lones78, lol, I've done that too. Thank goodness for the forgiving Editor.

But, LT, if people start dropping out, it sort of spoils the idea of each person having his/her title done and doing a title him/herself.
If we do a swap we can preserve that. I'm saying just make it a one-time thing.

Godwit - the editors on this site are awesome! They are so easy to work with. I've written quite a few quizzes now that sometimes a good smack in the back of the head is what is needed - and I don't get offended or upset any more!

So what happens if you swap your title and the one you receive gives you as much, or more trouble as the first? If it doesn't inspire one person there's every chance it wont inspire another and you're right back to square one. I'd rather see people accept defeat, there's no shame in doing so, and hand titles back. There never seems to be any shortage of people who miss the commission sign-ups for any number of reasons but participate at a later date with a title that has been handed back. I've done two commissions myself with recycled titles so I'm grateful for those who did hand them back.

Not to mention the chance of receiving your own title back.
No chance of a swap-- that's not what the commission is about. Luck of the draw.
This commission is also not taking a long time. We started it in January? We have people with other challenge titles since November (earlier in other cases!)

The point I'm making is that I think it's better to swap than to have people quit and other people write two titles or more.

Other people never write two titles or more. If you pick up a recommissioned title you can not have participated in that commission already. This has always been the case, otherwise it would not be fair. This is why our most active authors are never on the waiting list.

Speaking of waiting for commission quizzes, I will endeavour to get mine done soon. I have only 9 lots of II to write, but in between appointments and handing out CVs and bus-riding to and from town, I've not had much time to devote to writing properly.

Ahhhhh, I see! It must be in the other challenges where authors write two or three titles. So much for one cat to learn...

My title hasn't come up yet. I hope whoever has got it is not struggling too much with ideas (gulp!).

You're correct gracious, it is other challenges where players can submit more than one for the challenge. I have seen *cough cough* someone post five quizzes in a single challenge. It's probably not recommended to take so many, and you can only ever have one at a time taken for the challenge. Sometimes a challenge goes on and on and a duplicate author is needed to finish.
As far as trading commission titles go, I fear that players will look at the title, say "eh, I'm not feeling it", and wait for the swap opportunity. Some of the lounge's best quizzes came from someone getting a commission title they were baffled with for months, but when they finally had an idea, it was golden. The radioactive hamsters eating grandfathers title comes to mind. What an impossible tote, but with perseverance an idea was had and the quiz was stellar.
