Heather, it may or may not be something I could do. I'm not sure what kind of stats you're looking for when you say "a running account of team's status for the tournament thus far".
Are you asking for team cumulative standings? Like after 4 games, the teams stack up as follows...? Or are you looking for something different?
Tomorrow's a busy day for me with our first baby shower on the schedule, but I might be able to put something out before the weekend. =) |

This is UNOFFICIAL, because it's not coming from Kyle, but I took the 4 days' results, added up the daily scores for each team and here are the current totals. Note that the order would be exactly the same if the average (instead of total) daily score was used because all of these would be divided by 4. Total scores, I think, better show how close-together/far-apart the teams are.
3628.8 classicalmusic/mensan
3582.4 50 Tesla Chicken Calculators
3574.0 Revenge of the Llamas
3537.6 Joliettes
3457.0 The Cat People
3427.8 Worldwide Wizards
3344.6 Phoenix Rising
3328.8 The Regal Beagles
3323.8 CLIQUE-KICKERS
3320.6 The Moops
3303.8 Quiz Makers Guild
3289.8 Free Agents EAA
3285.8 Pi in the Sky
3210.8 Australian Players
3202.0 Dog Park
3100.8 Wise Opportunists
3098.4 Scotland the Brains
3086.8 Indian Gang
3071.4 The Devious Demons
3065.4 Terra Nova
3061.2 East Coast Palmetto
2988.8 Faithful and True
2979.4 Free Agents NAE
2976.6 The Internationals
2698.2 South African players
I only included teams with scores on all 4 days - the highest total for a team that had missed a day was ~2200.

Hi Kyle, sorry yes, cumulative team standings. Much like what TAR_fan has done. :)
Thanks again for doing this tournament, we at the Dog Park are really enjoying it!

Ignore me, I'm a moaner, but for me the charm of Wit's End was/is the custom categories, without them it becomes just 'another quiz'.

| Thanks for taking the initiative, Alvin. I can definitely do that. By total scores, you mean the top 5 scores from each team before averaging, correct? |

| I hear you, Jim. And I have no intention of removing the customized component. Wit's End has been at least 2/3 custom since we started. We do feature pre-built categories on a fairly regular basis, but never more than 1/3 of the schedule in any given month. |

From each day of your standings you've provided links to, I took the 'hero avg' (except I forced it to be 0 if less than 5 played) for each team. And I added those up for each team. Sorted by that total.

Ah, I see...so you mean you think a total of averages is better than an average of averages?
I concur. |

Yep - I just had to choose one method in my spreadsheet, so went with "total of averages". The order of teams will be exactly the same under either approach since any team's "average of averages" is simply their "total of averages" divided by the number of days played (which is the same for all teams). Math is fun!
By using the total of each team's daily hero avg, it keeps the differences in better perspective, I think. A 50 point difference between teams after game 1 of the tourney is the same as a 50 point difference between teams after game5 of the tourney. In either case, if you beat that other team by 50 points on the next game day you'll overtake them.
But if you look at "average of averages", they mean different things as the month goes along. To figure out differentials between teams you have to take the difference in their "average of averages" and multiply times the number of games completed to know how far you're really apart. OK, math nerd time is over for now. :-)
It's fun regardless of the standings/outcome. Although my team is doing rather well so far - no thanks to me the past few games.

| Thanks for that and for sending your spreadsheet my way. I will probably try to incorporate some of your formulas. I have some delimiting and lookup tables all set to auto assign team names to players entered into my database of usernames. |

Wow! And I already have a headache, but came in to see how my amazing team is doing, how my darling 50 Tesla Chicken Calculators are doing, attempting to play today (not pretty, and sorry, guys, but I can't think, see, read or comprehend when my head hurts) and attempting to play, well, something that might help my team, and I come here and see math! And not only math, but Tar assuring us "Math is fun!"
Music is fun! And I missed one because I didn't read correctly. The other one, I was just flatout wrong.
Don't worry, whoever it is who is worrying -- this is just a special tournament Kyle is putting on for just this month, at least for now. None of us want to show up and mess up your tournament, I promise. Custom Categories are fun! Kyle is fun! TAR is fun! I'm loving this tournament, and really glad I found the Wit's End monthly tournament, too.
I come in peace! I mean no harm!

Kyle, I'm bothering you with a question. My team played all games, five so far, but in one of them we were only four players. Are we out ?

No, even if you did not field enough players for eight of the nine games, you can still compete.
Your team might not be in the running for the top spot, and you'll not have any superheroes, but your players can still earn the hero award by finishing in the top 5 at least once.
And you can still move up in the overall team standings. |
