| Today's quiz was supposed to be gell's Pick: Classic Movies, but due to an administration error, it is instead Movies 2 Intermediate. The [Team Heroes] Movies 2: Intermediate game will continue, as scheduled, tomorrow. Today's scores will not count towards Team Heroes tallies, because it is not a scheduled Team Heroes game day. The Player Picks games will be shifted accordingly. |

Those 10's should not be punished because you made an error. What should happen is you make a note of who got them all right, and their score, and then tomorrow, you compare their new scores and take the higher one. Bollywood could be thrown into the mix. Then, not only am I not getting a fast time anymore, but now I won't be in my team's top five anymore.

Will take into consideration Anton.
Of course, the error was not a Team Heroes error because it has clearly been stated when Team Heroes days run, both in this blog and on the game page. Today is not a Team Heroes day, so it is actually an error in terms of the Player Picks schedule, and that has been corrected. |

All Team Heroes games are announced as such and you would have noted a Team Heroes graphic to go along with it.
There are many players who do not play on days that have not been identified as Team Heroes days, so these players (and teams) would actually be at a disadvantage if Team Heroes the schedule was not adhered to. |

If I were to consider scores from today, I'd have to consider all scores from today, not just the 10s.
It wouldn't be right to take the higher of the two scores because players who don't participate today (a non Team Heroes game per schedule) don't get two opportunities to post a score for the same game. |

It's hard for those who got a good score today but really the schedule of dates that count was announced at the start, regardless of whether the topic has been accidentally repeated on a separate day. Surely tomorrow - the 12th - should be the only play that counts.

I will repeat - at no point was today identified as a Team Heroes day.
The Category Schedule at Wit's End clearly identifies the next Team Heroes game as [Team Heroes] Movies 2: Intermediate. At no point today was the [Team Heroes] designation added to the category schedule, nor was the Team Heroes graphic posted.
Additionally, it is specifically stated in the game design and category schedule posted to this blog that Team Heroes games will occur this month every third day on Mar 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, and 30. This information is also posted to our facebook event.
I understand the desire to have a good performance scored, but there should be no confusion. |

"Today 's Topic" cannot include a [Team Heroes] designation when a pre-built selection is running. The pre-built selection title displays and the administrator cannot change it.
Last night the category schedule read as follows:
Category Schedule - gell's Pick: Classic Movies (Current), [Team Heroes] Movies 2: Intermediate (Tue), World of Art: General (Wed), gell's Pick: Classic Movies (Thu), [Team Heroes] Music 1: Easier (Fri), World of Art: World Figures (Sat), Jon53's Pick: English Geography (Sun)
When I noticed Movies 2: Intermediate was running, I changed it to:
Category Schedule - Movies 2: Intermediate (Current), [Team Heroes] Movies 2: Intermediate (Tue), World of Art: General (Wed), gell's Pick: Classic Movies (Thu), [Team Heroes] Music 1: Easier (Fri), World of Art: World Figures (Sat), Jon53's Pick: English Geography (Sun) |

I pasted the list of Team Heroes game days on the message board for Faithful and True, part of the combined team True Believers. We also have a link there. But I've been playing every day, so I don't forget, and I notice names of other team members on off-days too. Can't be easy to run this big tournament. Thanks for giving us another way to compete.

Chin up, Anton. Your score was tremendous, and now you can try to outscore yourself! It was a great practice run.
When I saw the topic, it confused me, too, but I do know that on any Tournament Day, it is "announced" all over that tournament, so there is no mistaking it.
Also? If you play in Kyle's tourney every day, you just racked up a gigantic pile of points for that score, and that absolutely counts toward the monthly totals, separate from this Invitational Tournament. I think... Doesn't it?

Hey Kyle? I don't know if this will help with the confusion, but I had played gell's pick of Classic Movies, the graphic was a photo from Psycho (eek!) and I had commented in the shoutbox about my surprise at doing well because I don't like old films!
Later, I looked in here and saw that dsimpy had mentioned the topic had changed to Movies Intermediate, and when I looked, sure enough, it had. I did think that maybe with Daylight Savings Time, or the custom category pick for Classic Movies, or who knows what, somehow the Invitational Tournament Topic was up and running, and that it was probably a glitch, but that it would be foolish not to play again.
I definitely played in both tournaments, with two separate topics, on the same day, but I don't know why the day turned over or just what happened to cause it.
I do know that keeping up with changing out Custom Categories is a chore, and it's not easy. I try to just have one day a week in my tournaments with a Custom Category, mostly because I do pull from several question pools when I post one.
I'm not upset at all. I'm just trying to maybe help you figure out what happened to cause that topic to change. I do think everything I've just written is accurate as far as times and timing, but it really was confusing, so forgive me if any of this isn't accurate.
I hope I helped, and didn't just make it more confusing than it already is/was!

Hi Elle,
I fully understand the confusion surrounding the scheduling. What I am not happy about is the insistence that somehow scores are being discounted when they shouldn't be. I firmly stand by the fact that never was the day in question identified as a Team Heroes day.
This is exactly what happened:
The topics scheduled for Mar 10-12 were World of Art: Schools & Movements (Sun), gell's Pick: Classic Movies (Mon), [Team Heroes] Movies 2: Intermediate (Tue). Before daylight savings took effect, the changeover occurred at 10pm PST, and after at 11pm PST.
World of Art: Schools & Movements did not run the full day because the topic was changed to gell's Pick: Classic Movies at 10pm instead of 11pm. Meanwhile, Movies 2 Intermediate was mistakenly entered in the pre-built selections for Mon AND Tue.
So on Sun, World of Art: Schools & Movements featured until 10pm PST, and gell's Pick: Classic Movies from 10pm PST through 11pm PST. Any players who got the Classic Movies set in that last hour necessarily did not play the World of Art set, and vice versa. At 11pm PST, the game auto-switched to Movies 2: Intermediate instead of continuing as gell's Pick: Classic Movies as the category schedule indicated (because pre-built selections always override custom selections).
When I discovered that the Movies 2: Intermediate set was being featured instead of gell's Pick: Classic Movies, I changed the category schedule from gell's Pick: Classic Movies (Current), [Team Heroes] Movies 2: Intermediate (Tue)... to Movies 2: Intermediate (Current), [Team Heroes] Movies 2: Intermediate (Tue)....
The Team Heroes graphic never displayed on Monday. The Category Schedule never identified Monday as a Team Heroes day - it was updated by me personally from gell's Pick: Classic Movies (Current) to Movies 2: Intermediate (Current) - and all the game schedules released ahead of time via this blog and the various event descriptions posted here and on facebook never identified Monday as a Team Heroes day.
That schedule is set in stone, because so many players participate on Team Heroes days only. To shift the schedule around would be unfair to them. I have had one glitch that affected 9 players on a Team Heroes day previously, and all of them were given the opportunity to post replacement scores on our backup page. But this time around the error occurred on a day NOT designated as a Team Heroes day.
It's hard to swallow for players who finished tops - I get that. I do think they'd be singing a different tune if they had not scored so well. But in the end, it is what it is. I am sorry for the confusion. And I hope we can move forward and continue to have fun.
Cheers,
Kyle |

Picky, picky people who don't even try to understand, just want to whine that they lost points for their team, when it wasn't even a team game that day. Grow up and suck it up - you didn't get screwed out of anything! Kyle is doing a great job here, and certainly doesn't need this abuse. Play for the fun of it like I do! I'm not smart, and I'm not fast - just having fun! And I commend Kyle for the great job, and for putting up with the whiners! Grow up and enjoy what Kyle is working hard to offer all of us! Great job Kyle!!

While I thank you, deadhead, I also would like to gently suggest that we keep it on friendly terms as much as possible. =)
We're all different people, and it's impossible to please everyone all of the time. It's fine to share opinions, but we should try our best not to make it personal or inflammatory. What I really don't want is for it to get out of hand.
Let there be peace and good will and fair competition. In the final analysis, it's all just trivial. |

REMINDER: Wit's End is a trivia tournament, not a Google Skills test. Please do not research answers while playing. House rules.
Researching answers may be fine for certain other private tournaments and FunTrivia.com games, but it has always been an expectation at Wit's End, in the interest of fairness, that players avoid researching.
