You're invited!

The Quiz Author Lounge is having a Pot Luck and all you need to do to join in the festivities is bring a quiz. Any quiz. Really.

To be honest, there is a list of things we definitely need to make this a success, but most importantly, we need to have 120 quizzes in this month. That could be four quizzes for thirty authors or five for twenty-four (or any variation). A quiz a week.

All you need to do is write and submit the quiz. If it gets online in February (until, perhaps, the end of the 4th of March) it will be added to the Pot Luck's goal. The great thing is, even if you're a first-time author, you can bring a quiz and it will count to the collective total!

But where's the challenge in this? Some of our more prolific authors may be thinking '120? Piece of cake.' Well, in addition to needing to post 120 quizzes, a total of 50 requirements will need to be met; all of this will be a collective goal. Some will be as basic as completing a quiz in each category by the month's end; some will require more difficult criteria. These criteria can stack up, so if we need a quiz about cats, you can make it count for both that cats requirement and the specific category requirement.

Keep in mind that while fifty requirements must be met collectively, that means seventy quizzes (or more) could be about anything. Further, all of these quizzes can count towards your Pan-Galactics. ;)

Authors will be able to submit a maximum of six quizzes. This will ensure that we don't have just five people writing twenty-four quizzes each this month; we want the Pot Luck to be a success for more than five people! When the quiz is online, post it in here for it to count. The results will all be listed at the end of the month.

The requirements list will be posted tomorrow when the doors to the Lounge's temporary banquet hall open. I've still got some cleaning up to do. Until then, think of the possibilities! Remember: even one quiz will help everyone in the long run!

Enjoy, and have fun!

Did I post this one here yet?

I think that makes four for me.

Reminder -- These challenges have just one quiz remaining:

The Lounge Goes Back to School
Dungeons or Dragons
Sultans of Swing

If anyone will finish these, that will take care of the "major challenge" requirement.

The Quiz-O-Meter and Commission XXIV also only need one more quiz.

Sultans needs two, if I recall.

I have just submitted one of my favorite quizzes ever written. It doesn't accomplish anything for this or any other challenge, but may help for pangalactic if others enjoy it as much as I do. :)

Superfan123 has submitted his Back to School quiz, and I have one submitted for the quiz meter (maybe, who knows whether it will actually work).

Oh, does Commission count as challenge? I thought they were different things?

I wrote a second February quiz. If that goes online in time,
I'll count that in here. If not, then my first one.

We already have February quizzes. What about Black History?

I was going to do Black History and then I read Morgan Freeman saying he hates "black" history. He wants Black life and people to be "American History". So..that was interesting. A lot of women feel the same way. So I was looking for a creative way to do Black History but not the obvious way.

All by way of saying, I didn't do the quiz. I was thinking you could do Black History about black days in history, like the stock market crash, and famous black outs and Black ice storms and such. That obviously wouldn't be February Black History Day.

Is no one working on that quiz?

Cellardoor and Gracious1 are both working on Black History quizzes, and I have one online a few hours ago that might be used (I think) if neither of those makes it in time.

Um, actually, I didn't mean to post the "Celebrity Rhyme Time" quiz in here.

So remove that and substitute this one:

So that still makes four.

I'm not sure I will be able to finish the Black History quiz in four days but I will try.

I've just submitted the Black History quiz I was working on. It's in the People category but is on the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s.

Godwit, I've heard that criticism too, and to some extent I agree. The people I wrote about in my quiz are black heroes, sure, but they're also American heroes who did great service for my country, and human heroes whose example can (and should) inspire anyone. Sometimes a label like "black heroes" can be exclusive -- as if their heroism has to be qualified or put in a different category from the "regular" heroes.

But I think that Black History Month is important, because the history of black people in the U.S. is too often ignored. It would be better to teach "American History" so that it spoke to and about all Americans, without leaving whole great swaths of it out, but that isn't happening. At least Black History Month means that people in general, and kids in particular, get to recognize and appreciate some exceptional people and some important stories. I fear that removing Black History Month, at this point, would just result in a lot of important history being forgotten. The same goes for women's history, Latin-American history, etc. I don't think it's a ghetto-ization; I think it's an imperfect corrective.

Of course I can only speak about the U.S., here, since that's the country whose various issues I'm most familiar with.

Kyle, a question: What happens if we hit 120 quizzes before the end of the challenge? Will any extra quizzes still count?

And here it is for the challenge:

I'm hoping it will count for the Black History requirement, and for the pot in general. I'm glad I had this push to write it.

Finally submitted my potluck-themed quiz - hopefully it'll go online by Thursday!

Buddy1 I believe we have until March 4--or is that just for the sunnies and not for everything?
