Planned to read "Deception Point" but it's gone off somewhere.
Bios of impressionist artists, basic physics {never got it in school - now it seems that physics is all about life, what makes everything tick}. Started a very good book years ago, "Chaos and Harmony" - but it vanished. Somewhere there's a room with all my lost keys, books, glasses, orphan socks, my big fat address book and my camera...guess we all have that room.

Daver: "The Way of All Flesh," by Samuel Butler. It's disappointing; I thought it was about strippers.
I remember I had to read this book and write a paper on this as a punishment for talking in class. It wasn´t translated to my language then, so I had to or at least I was supposed to read it in English. Draconic. Though, the teacher gave it up, in the end!

Still TRYING to get through "In Cold Blood". There's just something about it that makes me not want to read it as I've tried a few times before & never finished it! I've gotten farther than I ever have before this time, however. I'm halfway through it! WOO HOO! XD

I agree, Alexis! The good news is that I'm almost done with it! Less than 20 pages left! :)

"Persuasion", by Jane Austen, which is ironic because for the longest time one here, my profile info was about how I'd never been able to finish "Pride and Prejudice". Also "Henderson the Rain King", which I've taken a break from, because Saul Bellow isn't nearly as entertaining as everyone told me he was :)

Patrick O'Brian's 'Master and Commander' which I'm really surprised by. I was expecting it to be an entirely serious book but I'm finding many subtle pieces of humour as well. I do believe I will read the other 19 novels in the series once i'm finished, might even force myself to watch the film.

I am about 100 pages into "Dry". It's a frightening memoir about a gay alcoholic. The author whose life is being exposed is Augusten Burroughs, the author of "Running with Scissors". Deeply moving.

"Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk (A Modest Bestiary)", by David Sedaris. Very entertaining collection of stories, with animals as the main characters in very human situations. Definitely NOT for children, though.

Thanks, I love David Sedaris, very very funny guy, and listen to his programmes when they are on BBC Radio 4. I will look out for that book.

I'm reading a book called "The Great Moviemakers of the Next Generation." It's based off of conversations held at the AFI conservatory with people like Robert Altman, Morgan Freeman, Meryl Streep, and many more. It's really a fascinating look at all aspects of making films.

"David Copperfield". Some laughter, some tears, and it never gets boring.

I am reading a novel by Jack Finney called " Time and Again". It is a time travel story written in 1970. Very enjoyable and suspenseful as I don't know yet if he stays in 1880 or goes back to 1970.

My new "discovery" is a German author, probably living in Finland - Jan Costin Wagner. His detective stories (Ice Moon, Silence, and The Winter of the Lions are more than detective stories - they are full of psychology and creativity. He reminds me of Friedrich Dürrenmatt somehow, though he is different.
If you want to read a good detective story, I thoroughly recommend these books.

I am currently reading "Pride and Prejudice". I have never read it. I have seen many film adaptations but never read the book. I was cleaning out some boxes, and I found it. Don't remember purchasing it, or getting it as a gift but I figured I would read it, at least, since I never have.

Just finished reading 'The Hanging Garden' by Patrick White. It is an unfinished work published this year, twenty-two years after his death. It's believed he intended for the book two be in three parts, but stopped working on it after finishing the first part (that which is the published piece) owing to failing health and other projects. Enjoyable read and a shame it wasn't completed.
