After the Funeral by Agatha Christie. I know "whodunnit" from the film, so I enjoy the style and the way the author distracts the reader form the important things.

"A Thousand Splendid Suns" because "The Kite Runner" was fantastic. By Khaled Hosseini, set in Afghanistan.

cymruambyth: my mother read "The Other Boleyn Girl" and agrees with you. It's not good. The movie pits two big stars against one another when, according to mom, that's not how it was.
Consider "Jack and Rochelle: A Holocaust Story of Love and Resistance" written by their son Lawrence Sutin.

That is so great to hear.
Larry Sutin was my writing mentor and instructor for some years, back in the day. He had not yet published his first book. To hear someone say "a Lawrence Sutin book" does my heart good. He's done well, and he's a wonderful guy. :)
Let me know how you like that one!

Old Goriot is one of my favorite books of all time and Balzac is my favorite author. I've read Goriot in five different translations (sadly never in French).
The Balzac I'm currently reading is The Muse of the Department.

The last book I read was "The Last Queen" by C. W. Gortner, about Juana the Mad. I really enjoyed it, especially since the author tried hard to stick to what was proven fact.

I'm re-reading Pollyanna Grows Up and Fenella's First Schoolyear to complete the quizzes I'm working on. They're both great and I certainly suggest reading them.

I am about to start re-reading "A Wrinkle in Time" by Madeleine L'Engle. I read it once before; last year and really enjoyed it.

Currently reading The Village Rector by Honore de Balzac and Almayer's Folly by Joseph Conrad.
About to start The Black Ice by Michael Connelly. I've read a few of his Harry Bosch series and decided to go back and read them all from the beginning. This is the second book (Black Echo is the first).

I'm re-reading both "Jude the Obscure" and "Sister Carrie," and I'm making sure I go outside for some sunshine between chapters. :)

I'm about 30 pages into "Lady Chatterley's Lover" by D. H. Lawrence. It's my first time reading it and so far I think it's a unique story and I find it quite clever.
