Morecambe and Wise are my all time favourites, but high on the list are Victoria Wood and Peter Kay; side splitting north of England humour.

Billy Connolly would have to be tops.. Hamish Blake (young, Australian) and Wendy Harmer (not so young, also Aussie) are also terrific.
No disrespect intended, but I don't find American comedians funny, as I guess a lot of Americans wouldn't be amused by Aussie humour.

None taken. Almost all of the great ones are dead now. There hasn't been much to replace them either. Dane Cook... no. Not compared to someone like George Carlin.

tezza, there are quite a few funny American comedians (not the mainstream ones I must admit)
Arj Barker is a favourite of mine.
And yes Schoonie, Katt Williams always makes me laugh. (I was introduced to him from an American friend of mine via UTube :)

George Carlin was good (almost as good as Dave Allen), but I hadn't heard of Katt Williams, so I asked YouTube to find him for me. I watched a two-minute clip about Wed, and I will never get those two minnutes back. Remember the faces of the audience in The Producers, when the cast start singing "Springtime for Hitler"? That was me watching Katt Williams.
I don't care if people swear, and I'm not bothered if swearing is used "as an alternative" to a good vocabulary. Swearing _is_ an alternative vocabulary. What I do find tedious is swearing as an alternative" to humour. If you removed all the incidences of the N word that I shan't even try to get past the nannyfilter, the 12-letter word beginning with M, and anything starting with F, would the clip have last longer than one minute, and would the audience still be splitting their sides?

No, that wasn't a clip about Wednesday, it was actually a clip about Weed. Oops!

I have to say that I find David Mitchell very, very funny. He was on the Graham Norton show recently (again!) and I couldn't stop laughing at what he had to say. Clever, witty and funny.

Bill Cosby could make me roll on the floor, and he never swore. Tough to do this.
