Football foolishness
The Association Football World Cup is coming this summer, which prompts me to wonder why so many teams have managers who are foreign to the country whose team they manage.
There seem to be pretty stringent rules about whether a player is qualified to play for his country, so why is there no such rule about the team manager?
Is there some vested interest at work here, and if so what could it be? Or did FIFA simply forget about managers when they made the rules?
Cheers, DaveJ

I totally agree. The truth is it's the same with Portugal. If the FIFA had remembered the managers when doing the rules, our national team would be taken over by someone competent and PORTUGUESE like Mourinho. Now, we're left with Scolari, a blind old man from Brazil. And this happens as Brazilian player Deco had to get a portuguese nationality before being allowed to play. DANG!

Hi Dave....I see the point you are making and partially agree with you but the counter argument is that it doesn't really matter what nationality the manager is. In fact, the emerging nations benefit by having , say, a top European manager to pass on their expertise. If Togo were only alowed a Togo-born manager, chances are they would not have qualified for the World Cup.(their current manager is Nigerian).
I personally do not like Sven Goran Erikson managing England, not because he's Swedish but because I think he isn't able to motivate the players to the levels needed to WIN the World Cup in 4 months time.
