Battered Life Syndrome

An ongoing cry for help

Darkness In New England

It's over. That glorious, primal, exquisite sense of bliss that New England football fans have felt ever since the Patriots won their first superbowl back in 2001. And then again the year after that. That sense of rooting for a team that was not only superior on the field, but amazingly connected off the field. The brilliance of Bill Belichick, the otherworldly talent of Tom Brady were only the most visible part of the magic made by the collective energies of Willie McGinist, Troy Brown, Tedy Bruschi, Adam Viniteri, and the rest. It's all gone aka there is no joy in Mudville tonight. After losing McGinest and Dave Gibbon last week, we now have to contend with the loss of Adam V, the superheroic kicker who has decided to follow the lead of the faithless Johnny Damon of the Red Sox and, like him, go over to the enemy. Within days of becoming a free agent, Adam V joined the ranks of the Indianapolis Colts, the sworn enemy of Patriots fans everywhere. and a team whose quarterback has spent the last few years wondering why he gets paid so much to do only half of what the less well-paid Tom brady can do in his sleep. Oh, Adam! We will mourn you. But we will never root for you again. And we can't but help hope that your new team continues to fall short in the playoffs.

  • True true, so true. It seems all to common that the Red Sox and Patriots have been losing their players. Adam V., David Gibbon, McGinest, Johnny Damon and Bronson Arroyo. One can only hope that the Reds continue to fall short even with Bronson, and that the Colts will never be able to warm up enough to defeat us at Foxboro( yes, I realize they recently beat us this year but we had one of the most depleted squads ever.)
