Correction notes
I have been noticing lately that some of our newer quiz authors are not
quite sure what to do when they receive a correction notice on their
quiz. I'm going to run through the procedure for you here.
First, check whether the correction is indeed true. Not all corrections are valid, don't just assume that the player knows more than you do and change your quiz. On the other hand, don't just dismiss the player either. Do a little research. If you need more information, you can write the player back and ask for it.
If your research shows that the player is correct, and you indeed have an error in your quiz, then you need to fix it. Go into your quiz's edit screen, make the change, and click on 'save'. Then go back to your mailbox, and, if you wish, send a little note to the player. This is not mandatory, just good manners. Then, click on "corrected", and "update error report" and you're good. The note will disappear from your mailbox. However, until an editor has checked your correction, the note is not too far gone. You can still see it by clicking on "quiz notes".
If the player is NOT correct, and you feel there is nothing wrong with your quiz - do NOT click on 'corrected'. This does not make the whole thing go away, all it does is annoy the editor who is checking corrections. Click instead on 'not an error' and explain to the editors why you will not be changing your quiz. Include some facts, please, maybe the url to a website where we can verify what you are saying. The player will not see this note. You may or may not hear back from an editor - if you don't, you can assume that everything is OK.
Please do all of this promptly. We will usually give you about a week to get to your corrections, and then will start to pester you. If you leave a correction too long, and especially if you ignore a note from an editor telling you to take care of it, your quiz could be taken offline.
If you receive an abusive correction note, please don't try to get rid of it. Let an editor in that category know about it, and we will take care of it. Players who send abusive notes are removed from the site, but we need the note as proof.
Mostly, corrections on your quizzes are your responsibility. However, if the error is a big one, and lots of notes are streaming in, an editor will sometimes make the change to your quiz for you. When I do this, I leave a note explaining what has happened, and leave the correction notes for you to see, and click 'corrected' on once you have read them. It is good for authors to see their corrections - it helps you avoid making the same mistake next time.

Thanks for writing that, agony. May I also say, as a quizwriter and recipient of correction notices-- I don't mind getting correction notices. If something is wrong, I want to know so I can fix it. I don't want to mislead anyone with incorrect information, and I don't want the embarassment of some obvious error in my quiz, even if it's just a spelling error! But if you do send a correction notice, please take the time to use good grammar and punctuation, be polite, and explain what you mean (References are helpful but not required.) I tend to put more energy into responding to thoughtful, well-written correction notes (again, it doesn't need to be anything long or elaborate) than I do to sloppy ones.
Thanks!

Yeah, I agree with pu2-ke-qi-ri, I don't want there to ever be any errors in my quiz, and I certainly appreciate all corrections! I have been following all of the rules correctly, though. I hope this is helpful to some people, though, agony. I can understand some peoples' confusion!

Say agony, how did you get this snazy blog? It makes mine look like garbage. Moderators only?
