Strawberry Fielders.

February the 17th, sees the 40th. anniversary of "Strawberry Fields Forever".  Now, there may be better songs, but this is the one that really opened my ears to what music could be. It was altogether a major shift in consciousness, both for the listener and the band themselves. On it's release in the U.K., it failed to reach the coveted number 1 spot, indicating, a lack of liking for these new Beatle sounds. No Mop Top, I love you and you love me, no cutsy instrumentation, in general, for The Beatles, it was considered a failure.

However, this song, is now a part of all of us, within our psyche, as fresh today, as it was then.

So, I'd just like to say, thanks lads for giving us this song, and a very happy birthday  "Strawberry Fields Forever" , for this coming Saturday.

Cheers.

  • I remember the song well. I think it was too early to have a 'pop video' but I believe there was a film of people pickling strawberries shown on Top of the Pops, and I'm told that my Dad was on it. I've never been able to get a copy to see for sure, though, so this may go down a bit of family mythology!

  • Yeah, there is a promo film of it, which you'll probably able to see on YouTube.
The filming was actually done at Knole House, Sissinghurst, Kent, which is open to the public.
Incidently, it was while filming this, that John Lennon visited an Antique shop nearby and bought the Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite poster.

    Glad you like S.F.F.

    Thanks.
