Summer Dreams

Technically, we have exactly fourty-four days of school left here at Newton Falls. Fourty-four days of endurance left to make it through. And then... summer at last. Do you know what I mean when I say the year has passed quickly, but it's seemed long all the same?

I'm sitting here among a pile of homework (knowing the workload will only increase next year), heaving constant sighs and longing for the days when I can sleep in a little, wear pajamas all day and curl up and read a book, no worries to occupy my conscience. That's exactly what I'm planning to do, the days I'm not busy this summer. Aside from our two-week vacation in the beginning of July, the possibility of me counseling at Camp Marengo this summer, and of course, the inevitable month of band camp, I'm not doing anything else. Which gives me plenty of free time, hopefully to be able to see my friends more often, to catch up on some reading and to enjoy the warm weather... after such a prolonged winter, blistering heat will be welcome.

Is anyone else as anxious for June to come as I?

  • Believe me I can't wait for school to end but I could do without the heat. In Northern Indiana yesterday was 85 when school let out. Today around the same time was 75-80. The classrooms were unbearable because they haven't decided to turn on the air yet.

    Have a wonderful summer.

  • Really? Wow. In Northeast Ohio we've had ice-cold winter up until last week. Today is was 57. That would be perfect for me, if it stayed that way all the time. Here's hoping they turn the air on at your school soon!

  • It sounds like you have a good agenda for summer :) I have been listening on the news about the amount of homework kids have these days, and how it doesnt help kids...causes headaches, interferes with family life, and just being able to be kids. Its about time someone tried to do something.

I remember when mine were saddled with so much, they couldnt keep up, and that was years ago.

Band camp? What instrument do you play? ~Joanie~

  • I play clarinet in marching band, oboe in concert. They're both a lot of fun. Do you play anything?

  • I dont play an instrument, however all my kids did in school...Kim, clarinet, KiKi, trombone, Karen, flute and Kevin plays 3 kinds of guitars, drums and some keyboard even now. You can imagine what my house sounded like with them all practicing. Kevins friends were always here jamming in the rec room downstairs. I can still hear KISS songs everytime I think about that LOL. ~Joanie~
