Oh, no

Why does everything horrible happen to me?

For a little while there's seemed to been something wrong with the big toes on my feet. They're like, infected, or something. (Save the 'ewwws' and 'disgustings,' please. Let's be mature, people) They don't usually hurt that much, but since they look red and a little swollen, I am unable to wear sandals without embarassing myself. I guess today was the first time I alerted my mom about it, and she's going to call the doctor tomorrow. Anyway, now she's saying it might be ingrown toenails. Which she says means that if that's what it is, they have to REMOVE THE TOENAIL. Ohhhhhhh...........

A little problem. I'm TERRIBLE with pain.

So now my only hope is that they've changed the method of doing this since my mom was a kid (she said that it happened to her once.)

If anyone knows anything, please tell me!

EDIT: I just looked it up, and after showing me some hideous pictures (which I definitely didn't need to see, but were unequivocally worse than my feet), Wikipedia told me that for minor cases doctors usually tell the patients to soak the affected foot (or feet, in my case) in some kind of mixture and then apply an antiseptic ointment or something. Thank GOODNESS.

  • I have two toenails that I have to pay careful attention to because they grown inwards....in other words, I also have to be on the lookout for an ingrown toenail. I've always cut it as best I could, but sometimes it can be hard. Hope it doesn't hurt...and I certainly hope it's nothing serious.

  • It does sound like ingrowing toenails. You should see a doctor or a podiatrist, not only to treat the problem, but also to learn how to avoid it recurring. Sometimes this problem is caused by simple things like not cutting your toenails correctly, or wearing poorly fitting shoes. Even so, it can still recur. I ended up having to have a small section of toenail removed. They wouldn't take the whole toenail unless there was a very good reason.

  • If it's a mild case, the doctor may have you soak the foot and try to ease the nail out of the skin it's imbedded in. Sounds horrible, but you'll be so glad once it's over.
I found a great preventative measure for the future: cut a small 'v' shape in the top center of each toenail and they will not become ingrown. Seems that hundreds of people swear by it! Good luck. :)
