My Books 476-576
Helen Broomell (RIP) lived close to me. She was 65, a grandmother of 10, and had a lifelong ambition to canoe solo some 600 miles down the Yukon in Alaska. She did so twice starting in 1982. She wrote 2 books about her adventures.
476. Solo On The Yukon and Other Alaskan Adventures
477. Solo On The Yukon Again with more Alaskan adventures.
Amy Van Ooyen immigrated from Holland with her husband Claude (RIP) and 4 children when she was 29 in 1951. They raised their family in Dearborn, Michigan, then moved to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, near Lake Superior. We go up to visit her every year, listen to her stories, and bring back some of her honey (amongst many things, she's a beekeeper) She has written these books and has gotten several Writer of the UP of Michigan awards.
478. The U.P. Deadend Road Never Ends
479. Live It U.P.
480. Now and Then in the U.P.
481. Creatures and Characters (in the UP)
482. Transplants-An Immigration Encounter of East and West
*I count these as part of my library. These were given to me by a facinating lady, Ellen Hoy (RIP) who lived on my island back when it was first being settled.
483-576. National Geographics from May 1960 to February 1999
