A shared space, but still half mine

In the trend of describing the space where we connect with everyone over the Web, I'll talk about mine.

What first needs mentioning is that I am currently not at my normal computer space, but on a ten-year-old laptop which is sitting on my lap while I sit on the couch with the recliner out. My mother - the person with whom I share a computer - recently bought a newharddrive (320 gigabytes - yikes!), and yesterday she took it to a computer genius we know to install it, because - let's face it - no matter how skilled either of us are with a computer, the technical, setting-up part of it is just a little frightening. Right now we've gotten the computer tower back and she's setting everything up on it, so I probably won't have access to it for a while and haven't for a few days. But I'll tell you what it's like when it is accessible.

The tower sits in the space under this monster-sized desk that my great-grandfather made many years ago. It was, in fact, originally double the size - the two exact twins faced each other. They were separated at one point, however, and my uncle has the mirror image. It really is very beautiful, and, like I said, enormous.

The flatscreen monitor and keyboard sit on top of it, with the printer/scanner on the left and the mouse, a pencil sharpener, lamp, cordless phone stand, and answering machine on the right, among other things. Various papers and books, etc., sit on the free space on the desk, despite my mother's complaints that it makes the desk cluttered. Half of the "clutter" is hers.

There are two drawers on the right (one double-sized) and three on the left, which, no matter how many times I close them, always seem to be open, displaying everything from my mother's makeup to envelopes to a huge stack of printer paper. They do give it a cozy feeling, as does the comfy computer chair with one arm missing.

Well, that's my computer space - not much, but I love it. I kinda miss it, in fact. If someone could kindly let me know how to put a photo into blog posts, then I'd be happy to put one up. Happy surfing!

  • Photos to blog posts is easy, you have to have a free online album (flickr, photobucket etc), they have a url to grab set out somewhere on (photobucket) or linked (flickr) to the photo, being careful to size it to option first (each tells you how). Then you click the little picture icon here, copy and paste the url in (removing the existing http bit in the box first) and when you enter it the photo magically appears in the blog. Once you've done it once it's easy, honestly!
