First entry

Well, as you might guess from the subject that this is my first entry.  So, what do I say?

I was reading the paper the other day when I read that most men in prison are educated poorly.  Having been a teacher for 35 years it does not surprise me.  The insinuation the writer was making was that if we improved the public school system enough these men would be better educated and therefore not in prison.  I do not believe that their problem is a poor education.  As a matter of fact, their problem was the cause of their poor education.  There was little motivation to learn and lots of motivation for breaking the rules and disrupting the class.  In my experienced opinion, we need to work on improving student behavior or remove the disruptor from the class.

Where do we put them?  I am not sure, but I am sure they have no right to tie up the teacher's time with misbehavior and keep the teacher from working with the students who want to learn.

  • I believe that the problem lies not with the school system but with children's home life. Something is amiss.

It was always clear in school who was there to learn and who wasn't.

    Since your teacher -
I hope you don't mind me asking a question.

Wasn't there a time when 'got' was not a word or at least not acceptable to say?

  • I'm also a teacher. There's no solution to that problem. Separate schools may work, schools for those who want to learn and those who don't.

I read recently that they are raising the age a person can quit school to 21. That may solve a lot of problems for those who dislike school... If they do their work, they get out sooner. If they don't do their work, they will be there for a long time.

If it doesn't work the way it could, there may be a lot more problems in schools.

Our school system is making plans for 2 more years, mandatory Pre School and a 13th grade. The state say's there is to much in the curriculum to teach by 12th grade.
