Phillies Win Turns City Upside Down!

Okay, so it is not news to anyone in the United States and Canada that the Philadelphia Phillies have, finally, after 28 years scored the coveted  “World Series Championship”.

While I am truly happy for the team, I am not at all pleased with the destruction caused by several hundred fans. Wednesday night the city was chaotic with fans pouring from houses, bars and whatnot and destroying private property.

A luggage store in center city (dead center of the problematic fans) had their storefront window broke and the display luggage that was set in the window was set on fire in the middle of Broad street!

What I do not care for is the craziness of the fans that like to destroy other people’s property…complete to turning parked cars over, and ripping up statues from the ground and dumping over 250 pound planter pots outside of businesses and hotels. I do not appreciate, nor do I care for  the people that urinated and defecated in the streets, up alley-ways, on parked cars, and on residential steps! For crying out loud…that is what toilets are for!

The parade that was held on Friday to honour the Philadelphia Phillies winning was just as bad if not worse! The same sort of stuff, and people that went to work had a difficult time getting below Broad street to go home…the people that came out to celebrate caused nothing but a mess and marred what, otherwise is a fun thing to have happen in Philadelphia.

I wish the Philadelphia Phillies nothing but the best of luck, but I hope and pray that a Philadelphia team never ever wins another championship title, as the destruction to private property is never worth the price of a championship. Heaven help us if the Philadelphia Eagles should ever win the Super Bowl...everyone living in Philadelphia should lock their doors and stay inside as the destruction would be 20 times worse that what happened when the Philadelphia Phillies won the "World Series Championship"!

  • Some stupid people insist on ruining things for everyone.

Hopefully, the Phillies will not let the actions of some tarnish their hard work.

Why would any team want to win if this is how their fans act when they do win. I wouldn't.

Sorry, Agnes. Philadelphia is such a pretty place.

Too bad the idiots aren't the ones having to do the clean up and pay for the damage they did.

  • Oh my gosh! That's truly shocking. If you won, I don't see why everyone went crazy with destruction. Maybe if you'd lost...No, I'm just kidding.

I doubt that the Panthers will win any time soon, so I think I'm safe.

  • I am willing to bet there was a LOT of alcohol behind the whole scenario. Unfortunately, when you mix it with over zealous fans, that's usually the result.

I'm glad an American League team won, even though it was not my Yankees (I know - boo, hiss!), but I'm not happy to hear what they did to the beautiful city of Philly.

  • It is beautiful - I remember now! I went there years ago, and remember an elegant square in the town centre, studded with plane trees.

I wonder if closing all the bars and pubs and off-licences on match days would make things any better. Or would alcohol-deprived fans just smash windows and do as much damage sober?

  • Actually, Lesley, I truly believe they would simply act the same way. It is only courage that alcohol provides. Stupidity exists even when they are sober.

Believe me, I am learning more about people who drink to excess than I ever wanted to do.

Please excuse a slight detour, Agnes.

For example, dear friend, the other day a co-worker informed Hubby that their neighbors up the street were testing out a bullet proof vest. Well, one neighbor put the vest on, talked the other neighbor into shooting him, while wearing this vest, in the chest.

The bullet penetrated the vest. The man was killed. The other man was not charged as it was "an accident". However, he still took a life.

Now, how do we help the 10 year old boy who witnessed the whole thing?

Like I said, stupidity often exists before any alcohol is consumed.

    Thank you, Agnes.
