Terrific Night!

My sister and I gave our mother a surprise 61st birthday dinner, at one of my Chef's restaurants. We had 13 guests, besides ourselves, and it was such a lovely night!

My mom was so surprised, you could have knocked her over with a feather!

The food was out of this world! Fifteen of us had the filet mignon with potato leek gratin and forest mushrooms in a merlot sauce. My Aunt Helen, just had to be different, she ordered the Organic free-range chicken breast with crispy leeks, in jus.

Everyone had a few drinks and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.

Even though mom sometimes gets on my nerves, like I do her's, it was well worth it just to see the shocked look on her face! Her face was even redder when the birthday cake came out and everyone at our tables, plus regular guests at the bar and other tables started to sing "Happy Birthday" with us.

One word to describe everything: Super!

Wish every night could be as fun.

  • What a wonderful WONDERFUL thing to do. The food sounds delicious - all of it. Probably the best thing is that you took a classically anti-climactic birthday - anything ending in 1 - and made it exciting. I am so glad that it turned out so well.

  • I'm glad it turned out so well, how could it not? Even though your Mom may get on your nerves, you are lucky to have her. By my 29th birthday, both my Mom and Dad had died, so enjoy it and grumble about her to the people who will listen - US!

  • Thanks everyone! Mom's friends and neighbors, as well as our family are still drooling when they talk about the food! :)

  • You're really lucky to have your chef connections. I wish I did. :-) My sister and I did something similar for our mom a few years ago on her 50th b-day and I think it was one of the most memorable nights of her life. I hope your mom looks back on this in the same way!
