Sign of Hard Economic Times...
Over the course of two months things have become very bad for all of the high-end restaurants in the City of Philadelphia. Three of the five that I work for are located in Center City Philadelphia.
Christmas Eve came very hard to three hundred employees who were laid-off, and will not be called back. New Years' Eve found another one hundred fifty people without jobs for the new year.
Over the past few years jobs in Philadelphia have become so scarce, that now, they are non-existent. I feel very bad for all of those that have lost their jobs and that will, without a doubt have a difficult time making ends met, paying mortgage and car payments. Too many, putting food on the table is more important, however, without the income to be able to maintain the other necessities, these people will probably not fair well at all.
My wishes for 2009 are that those that have been laid-off from their jobs find some type of work that they can do that will bring them some semblance of an income.
I hope that our soon to be inaugurated President, has some good plans and ideas to help this country during this difficult economic time.

Here's hoping that we all hang on to our jobs, and those that haven't, find new ones.
We had a new restaurant open up in our small town/large village. We need a cheap and cheerful family restaurant, somewhere people can go when they don't feel like cooking, and have a couple of drinks because it's only a short walk home.
We got a very austere, unwelcoming looking place, average charge £20.00+ a head for two courses, and that's before you have a drink. I hope they do well but I fear they won't.

We have had a lot of layoffs at the auto plants here and as a direct result, the entire restaurant industry has taken a huge hit. I hate to hear about your's Agnes, because if Chef Perrier has layed off his people, that is TRULY a sign of bad times.
I hope things turn around for all across the country who are suffering right now too. The people who are worried about having food and a roof over their heads - NOT those who can't by that new Bentley right now.
