Another Day In Paradise

A romp into the mundane , for the most part. - with a few detours.

Name:ktstew

Those inevitable 25 things

...that everybody is  dredging up about themselves. Here's the list,, though it won't be nearly as riveting as some I've read -

(x) Gone on a blind date  A couple of times. Once it materialised into a short but delectible excursion. Never anything of substance, though.

(X ) Skipped school. Just the once, and I was guilt stricken. Knowing we'd get hail Columbia for being there when K's dad came in for lunch, we heard him fumbling for his key at the door and dove into her already jammed closet. We spent the next 40 minutes in a hellish pile of dirty laundry, twisted like pretzels, trying not to breathe. Just as my left arm was losing total sensation and turning cold and I began to visualise what amputation might be like - we heard the front door slam. Isn't it puzzling which idiot things one remembers about junior high school?

(x) Watched someone die.

(X ) Been to Canada, Mexico

(X) Been on a plane . From puddle jumper commuters to luxury jets, though not in many years.

(X ) Been in a helicopter.  Once was more than enough.

(x) Been lost.  In Los Angeles, which can be a bit un-nerving. I also got lost in a dirt market down in Chichicastenango, Guatemala. I stayed calm, however - probably asking passersby in my abysmal Spanish  how to  deep fry a  llama. My longsuffering esposo finally sauntered up, puffing his pipe and grinning from ear to ear, jabbering to the store keeper about how I was 'new here, but highly entertaining' [from such bits as I could translate.]

(x) Swam in the ocean - Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific coast. Again, many years ago.
(x) Cried yourself to sleep.  Yep, we all have, I bet. More than once.

(x) Played cops and robbers. Yes. Ours was the Illya Kuryakin version, with his buddy Napoleon Solo. That was our nod to cops and robbers, but we played cowboys and Indians, too. Also a home grown version of knights and wizards -way, way before internet games.

(X ) Recently colored with crayons. About a month ago. I have every shade and when I don't paint, I sometimes use them in my artwork. Soy colours work best [ Prang] because the pigment is so intense.

(X ) Sang Karaoke.  That and have done a bit of  duet session work in a friend's studio, back in the eighties.

(X ) Paid for a meal with coins only. Back in the salad days, when I washed dishes at Crescent Dragonwagon's Sun Kitchen.

(X) Done something you told yourself you wouldn't. So how many times do you want to know about? Might as well pull up a chair.

(X ) Made prank phone calls. No, I never did.

(X) Laughed until some kind of beverage came out of your nose & elsewhere. Yeah, lots of times. I seem to find lots of things funny because I'm easily entertained. Or so I've been told.

(x) Caught a snowflake on your tongue.

(x ) Danced in the rain-naked. Not naked, but in a little bitty swimsuit on a riverbank.

(x) Written a letter to Santa Claus. I never did that, somehow.

(X ) Been kissed under the mistletoe. Yes and it was worth remembering.
(x) Watched the sunrise with someone. Absolutely, and on  many occasions. I love that time of day.

(x) Blown bubbles.
(x) Gone ice-skating.
(x) Gone to the movies. It's one of my favourite  Sunday afternoon  pursuits
(x) Been deep sea fishing. My uncle  had a shrimp boat when I was little and we'd go out into the Gulf of Mexico.

( ) Been in a hot air balloon. No and I probably won't either. I can imagine going to the moon in the shuttle, but never just dangling out over the countryside in an open box. Shudder.

( ) Been sky diving. No, and I used to marvel that my husband had such an affection for it.

( ) Gone snowmobiling. Just the once, in Minnesota as a teenager

(X) Lived in more than one country - a very extended stay down in  Guatemala. That may not really count, though.

(x) Lay down outside at night and admired the stars while listening to the crickets. More times than I can remember

(X) Seen a falling star and made a wish.

(X) Been on a cruise. Not unless you count the river boat excursions  on my friends' beautiful boat.

(x) Cast a spell.  I used to be a lot of things I'm not now, many years ago. You don't want to know and I seldom feel like bringing it up.

(x) Traveled by train. A couple of times, just enough to get the feel of it and wonder what it was like, traveling across the country during wartime. My mother did that once, meeting my dad in San Francisco before he shipped out- circa  September 1943.

(X) Traveled by motorcycle. As a passenger, long ago.

(X) Been horse back riding. Many times.  I grew up watching people work cattle on horseback, too.

( ) Ridden on a San Francisco CABLE CAR - no but I always wanted to.

(x ) Been to Disneyland.  I'll never forget the look on my 11 year old's face as he said over and over "wow. I'm in the parking lot at Disneyland." This gave us pause for a minute...would he need medical attention upon actually entering the ticket booth? Oxygen, maybe?

(x) Really believe in the power of prayer. I wouldn't be here without it, nor would my house.
(x) Been in a rain forest and I've seen whales in the ocean.

( ) Ridden  an elephant. Nope -again, too high up.

( ) Swam with dolphins. No, but I think they're fascinating.

( ) Been to the Olympics.
( ) Walked on the Great Wall of China.
( ) Saw and heard a glacier calf.
( ) Been spinnaker flying.

( ) Been water-skiing - my water sports have always been confined to small boats and canoes, come to think of it. I once tried to stun a swimming snake by hitting it in the head with an orange. Does this count as a water sport, I wonder?

( ) Been snow-skiing.
( ) Been to Westminster Abbey. Sounds lovely.
( ) Been to the Louvre. Another lovely trip that would be.
( ) Swam in the Mediterranean.
(x ) Been to a major league game. Yes, and I loved it. I'd like to see the Cardinals in action one of these days.

  • There was a time in my life, that I practiced Wicca.(sp?)Spells were a very interesting part...I think some worked, and I know most, did not. I'm still unclear about my 'calling,' but I don't think that's it.
    Wonderful info. Thank you.

  • Wiccans are plentiful in this part of the country, VKK, along with those who are more Pagan than witch...so many factions, with so many variations. Kind of a do -it -yourself kit among religions.
I found out early that this didn't seem to be my calling, either, though what I practiced was more the religion of my celt ancestors - different that what I perceive modern Wiccans to be.
I'm much more plodding and open these days and my belief in God strong...but it's very different version than what many people believe in.

  • That's riveting - trust me! There's a *lot* of stories here.

  • I knew it would be good, Kate! I agree, there are tons of stories in those short 'blurbs'. Just for the record, not that anyone cares, but Prang crayons, paints, etc, were manufactured right here in Sandusky, OH for many, many years at one of the Dixon-Ticonderoga facilities. Taking a tour of the plant was always on the gradeschool local field trips roster.
